Áflr/Álfar (Ale-vir/Ale-var)

General Information

The álfar once inhabited Talatala-loka’s Gate until most of their entire kind was wiped out by the dvergar in a massive war. Now, a tiny handful of purebred álfar are still around and a number of therianthropy and álfr hybrids.

The álfar were born from the ljósálfar through a major gene mutation. Compared to their predecessors, álfar only have a smaller pool of aura to their disposal though it is much more flexible. The álfar can manipulate anything with their aura with the right incantation and if they are put under the proper discipline.

Aside from the limit of a smaller pool of aura, each álfr is born with a certain skill. Examples of such skills are tracking, dominion over the natural flow of the elements, creating and disarming curses, potion making. Any incantation outside a álfar’s given skill range is incredibly taxing on their aura, though some very lucky souls are gifted with two or even three skills.

In terms of physical strength and speed alone, they are outmatched by some other races, though they have unprecedented agility and reflexes. They can also increase their physical capabilities with their aura while it can be draining on their aura reserves.

Traits and Attributes

The álfr’s average lifespan is about three centuries. They reach physical maturation in their third decade and their aura fully matures in their forth. They can last longer than a ljósálfr, their parent race, without water but not food, considering ljósálfar can photosynthesize. The álfar are also a bit more prone to illness than the ljósálfar.

Their sight is the most exceptional in all the valley. They can see at the distance of a predatory bird with as much detail. They possess exceptional nocturnal vision that is almost as good as a dökkálfr’s. Their eyes have three sets of cones and rods. One set of eyes rods is for visible light, one is sensitive to infrared light, and the other is sensitive to ultraviolet light. They are sensitive to sounds between 20 Hz and 77 kHz.
