Álfheimr (Alv-hime-r)

Álfheimr is the once great capital of the Álfr Kingdom. The city fell and the álfr’s land was destroyed after the war the álfar struck with the dvergar. At the city’s height of glory, all races would come and visit this great metropolis to experience the wealth of the álfar, regardless of how difficult it was to visit the location.

Álfheimr was surrounded by cliffs shaped by a waterfall at almost every side. It was connected to the ancient and mystical energies of the forest of Talatala-loka’s Gate. Through powerful enchantments, the city could be completely hidden or temporarily moved to another location in the forest. Most of the buildings were carved from the massive petrified skeletons of old white baobabs that gave the city its mystical properties.

Government

Álfheimr was the home of the Silverbloods, the only family line that was half álfr and half ljósálfr. The Silverbloods had powers that no álfr or ljósálfr could compare to. They governed Álfheimr and ruled over the Álfr Kingdom.

Under the main ruling Silverblood, were the twelve strategoi. Some of the strategoi were also Silverbloods while the rest were álfar. They were primarily generals during times of war but also keepers of the law.

Defences

Álfheimr had some of the best city defenses in all of Hárronfall. Being encompassed by cliffs made it difficult for attacking armies to reach. It could be moved around to completely different areas to avoid attacks or even aid in battles against opposing forces. The borders of the city were encompassed by a dome of aura like an impenetrable wall. From the outside, the aura shield reflected its surroundings, but the inhabitants could see out of the dome like looking through a glass window.

History

The city was discovered as ancient ruins by Haraldr Silverblood when he was in hiding from the ljósálfr forces. Small findings of the once great kupua civilization were scattered all over Talatala-loka’s Gate, mostly as runes carved into petrified white baobabs, but these ruins were like nothing anyone had seen before and held a treasure trove of undiscovered secrets.

While researching the ruins, Haraldr deciphered what the kupua’s runes meant and what power they held. The ruins were once the kupua’s greatest city. If the runes all over Talatala-loka’s Gate were activated again, vast amounts of the forest’s energy would pool into the ruins.

Haraldr traveled around the forest in secret, tapping into the runes carved into old white baobabs to unlock the power stored within. When he completed his quest, the power inside the ruins was like nothing he could ever imagine.

He created a base out of the old ruins and gathered all álfar that were willing to rebel against the ljósálfar and fight under his command. His base of power finally gave the álfr rebels a leg to stand on. With time, as the rebel’s numbers grew, the base became a great city and Haraldr’s home. When the álfar finally conquered the ljósálfr’s rule, that city became the Álfr Kingdom’s capital.
