Talatala-loka‘s Gate

Talatala-loka’s Gate is most renowned for the massive white baobabs that grow in the area. These trees have the potential to grow larger than tall buildings. They produce fruit that’s a staple to all creatures and races that live in Talatala-loka’s Gate.

Their impressive size isn’t the only unique thing about these trees. The white baobabs feed off the energies of Niflheim as well as sunlight. This kind of feeding gives the trees silver-white leaves, ashen bark, and beautiful white flowers that glow a silvery-blue from Niflheim’s energy on nights when they are in bloom. The energies of Niflheim allow these trees to grow higher and faster than any other plant in Hárronfall. They also live for thousands upon thousands of years.

The baobabs’ ability to draw in Niflheim’s energy does more harm than good when left unattended. The energies change the trees’ composition and harden the trees into stone while they are still alive. If this happens while the tree is still young, the living parts of the tree will rot and decay, leading the tree to a premature death.

The kupua changed the baobabs so the trees could draw from this primal energy. Using their galdra the kupua could prevent the trees from petrifying while they were young so the baobabs could go tall and strong.

After the kupua were wiped out, the ljósálfar, álfar, and the races before them continued the kupua’s work in attending to the white baobab as they aged. Since the death of the álfar, the other races in the northern continent don’t have the same gifts with nature when it comes to their aura. No one is left to carry on the work of nurturing the white baobabs.

The old growth forest of baobab deep within Talatala-loka’s Gate has held strong and unaffected. These trees are old and able to balance the energies of Niflheim within them so they don’t turn to stone before their time. It’s the younger trees on the border that have suffered from the loss of the álfar. Many younger baobabs have started to rot the over years.
