Cassian Virelius
Cassian was said to be Arrian's mirror in warmth, wit, and openness—a gifted abjurer in his own right, though more daring than disciplined. Those who knew him remember him as the heart of the Virelius line—a man of warmth, vision, and courage, whose death carved an unhealable wound into the cold stone of Carteia.
He perished during a containment failure in the lower chambers of the Spiral Archive, attempting to reinforce the Seventh Seal, a forgotten vault that stirred with ancient, destabilizing energies. Lord Virelius held the breach long enough for students and fellow magi to escape—but was consumed by an uncontrolled magical backlash. His body was never recovered, only fragments of his focus and cloak. His death marked the beginning of the Duke’s long retreat into silence, and Marcellus Virelius, then but two years old, was raised thereafter under Arrian’s watchful and often severe guardianship.
