Vesper

Vespers are also known as Kenku, and the terms are interchangeable for most non-Vespers.   Vespers are small humanoids, clearly batlike in appearance. Their arms bear vestigial skinlike wings that sometimes drag along the ground, their face is that of a bat with a short snout, and they have small stubby tails. They do not have voices of their own, but instead can mimic any noise they've heard- often parsing together their speech from recorded sound clips.   Vespers are a young race given sentience and humanoid form by The Masked One in -700DE. Originally fruit bats that were transformed by The Feywilds, the non-sentient cousins to Vespers (large intelligent fruitbats that parrot speech) remain common there. Vespers have lost their cousin's abilities of flight, but gave gained access to advanced tool use instead.   Since they emerged from the Feywilds, Vespers have migrated across the world in small communities. Kobold-born Vesper communities have also cropped up wherever Kobolds go, bolstering Vesper numbers outside of Desmia.   As a Player Character, Vespers have the following statistics:
  • +2 Dex, +1 Wis
  • Blindsight 30 feet.
  • You can mimic any sounds or voices you have heard. A creature that hears the sounds can tell they are imitations with a successful WIS (Insight) check opposed by your CHA (Deception) checks
  • Proficient in two of the following skills: Deception (CHA), Stealth, Acrobatics, or Sleight of Hand.
