Tunrokken
Stildanian enserfed workers
The Tunrokken are an odd social class in Northern Stildane : they are bound workers, non-agricultural serfs who are neither free nor enslaved.
Tunrokken are a small group in most of North Stildane; Hainish lords prefer Eigen (agricultural serfs) to Tunrokken. Most of the Tunrokken are controlled by city Junkers or are assigned to townships that have yet to reach city status.
Tunrokken are far more common in Kivish countries such as the Empire of Kizen and Kingdom of Verzavek. There, surplus Eigen peasants are converted to Tunrokken, and are then rented out by the landlord to various businesses. Military-lords and magnates often act as labor coordinators, with their officers moving through towns finding work assignments and arranging Tunrokken contracts.
Kivish Tunrokken in Uvaran kingdoms such as the Kingdom of Gennorholn are often at risk of being targeted by anti-Kivish forces - even if the Tunrokken themselves are Uvaran.
Tunrokken are ensured jobs and negotiation on behalf of them by an agent of their lord for wages and housing. In exchange, they cannot quit their job and have a portion of their wages sent to their lord instead of them.
In many realms, it is not uncommon for the urban poor who lack wealth or a place in society to be pressured into becoming Tunrokken as a form of "charity".
