Ibith

Ibith is a perpetual borderland. The coastal fringe, warmed by Northern currents, is heavily populated, but the interior is periodically frozen by seasonal weather patterns that rage upwards from the Antarctic during autumn and winter. There is a fundamental disconnect between these worlds: the coast is urban, commercial, international, and governed by traditional state structures; the interior is semi-nomadic pastoral groups that migrate seasonally as they always have, and are far more fluid in their governance and structure. The Two Ibiths are inseparable but often in conflict- close in trade, but often at war.   Ibith is perhaps the most remote of all the "civilized" lands- to the West, the Runevan Empire blocks all incoming traffic and in the East, the coastline dips so far South that large-scale state building becomes impossible. Ibith has heavy trade with Ekraht, Sonev, and the world beyond, but rarely anything more. Some might argue that it might not even have that if it wasn't for the legendary Healing Tree of Isethra, which enchants any water that touches its living roots to heal any ailment. This attracts pilgrims from around the world, and keeps coastal Ibith perpetually connected to the greater world in trade and culture.

Geography

The coastline of Ibith is 1,900 miles long and is remarkably warm continental forest. From this coastline, there are several layers of climate going inland: the warm temperate layer, the really cold temperate forest/plains layer, the seasonally-freezing temperate forest/steppe layer, the psuedo-taiga layer, the freezing taiga layer, and the Kaskan Mountain layer. The Kaskan mountains are a mountain range of large peaks that encircle the antarctic, imperfectly keeping in the cold winds and allowing Ibith to be as habitable as it is.    Of those layers, really only the first two can be comfortably lived in without seasonal movement.

Fauna & Flora

Giant Dire Borzois roam the Southern frontiers, and Blink Gliders (teleporting sugar gliders) live across Ibith.
