Advent of the Myths

Event | X-Files IV Storymode

The Advent of the Myths was a paranormal and supernatural event that occurred during 1997, that kicked off the events X-Files IV: Storymode. The spontaneous opening of the Bloodpool out in the woods of Back o' Beyond led to the emergence of many long-rumoured anomalous entities and myths into the world of San Andreas, causing havoc and panic all across the state.

Background

Advents of the Myths were events that had been occurring for - at the very least - very thousands of years. The first recorded advent happened many hundreds of years ago, and ended when all of the involved myths were defeated and killed by the societies of the time. It is suspected that the emergence of entities in past advents, such as Bigfoot and the Yeti, is the origin of the myths which have prevailed in common culture ever since. With more 'modern' myths such as Samara and Freddy Krueger, it is possible that their existence has subconsciously affected the present, or their presence in fictional works has led to their actualisation in an advent by some anomalous means.   All advents originate from the Bloodpool, though the exact cause, method, and mechanic is unknown. The lack of recorded history regarding advents has made it impossible to find any common pattern between emergences, thus making the prediction of future advents an indeterminable certainty.

Events

The 1997 advent began in July. As a group of hikers walked past the Bloodpool, it suddenly began to activate, emitting a thick, white mist. The hikers stared on in awe until myths emerged from the fog, specifically Bigfoot, the Yeti, and Piggsy, causing the hikers to flee in panic. None survived, and all of them - including Eve Matthews' parents - were killed in the vicinity of the Bloodpool.
Following their emergence, the various myths began to emigrate to their long rumoured places of residence. For instance, the Yeti journeyed to Mount Chiliad, and Piggsy journeyed to the Northstar Rock Cabin. These emigrations resulted in a plethora of calls from a panicked public being made to authorities, leading to Prospero getting involved. Prospero's leader, The Custodian, worked to keep matters entirely within the organisation's hands, and he neglected throughout the entire saga to tell his higher-ups and government officials that any myths had been discovered.
Agents of Prospero investigated locations all across San Andreas in search of anomalous activity, both responding directly to calls from the public, and also acting proactively to head off potential future activity. Carl Johnson in particular dispatched many of the first myth arrivals, such as the Yeti, Leatherface, and Piggsy.   As events unfolded, the Bloodpool would open at least one more time, releasing another wave of myths including Freddy Krueger, Nemesis, and Mothman into the world. It is unknown precisely many many pool activations there were during the advent.   The advent came to a formal close when Bigfoot was defeated by CJ and Eve Matthews in the Bloodpool. For whatever reason, Bigfoot seemed to have a strong link to the event, and with his death the pool collapsed, seemingly for good. With the pool closed, the advent was considered to be over, however myths that had already entered the world were still at large.

Aftermath

Following the events of the Showdown at Satellite Site Omega, Prospero was formally disbanded and disavowed due The Custodian's actions during the advent.
