Biography
Background
Eve was born to parents John and Andrea Matthews.
Death of her Parents
When the Advent of the Myths began, Eve was staying by herself, having refused to join her parents for their annual camping trip. All was well until she received a call from her mother during a freak and sudden storm. She could hear her mother terrified out of her mind on the other end of the line - as well as her father and the others they were with - screaming and shouting, accompanied by the sound of a chainsaw. Before she could learn any specific details beyond the word "Yeti", the line went dead, though she knew for sure that her parents had been killed.
Hunting the Yeti
Seeking vengeance, Eve journeyed to Mount Chiliad, acting upon the fact that she heard her mother utter the word "Yeti". She spent a considerable amount of time searching for it, and during this time she witnessed it tear apart two different groups of hikers. When she encountered it at the Chiliad cabin, she fired off many rounds with her sniper rifle, albeit to little effect.
As she continued her search, she heard a torrent of gunfire coming from the mountain's summit, and so decided to investigate. She stumbled across Carl Johnson fighting with the Yeti, and she arrived just in time as the Yeti knocked him down and moved in to kill him. With a bullet to the head, she was able to kill the Yeti once and for all, not only saving CJ's life, but also potentially avenging her parents too. CJ called out for her, however she remained hidden as she did not desire to speak to anyone yet due to her grief.
She waited around on the mountain trying to think of a way to dispose of the Yeti, whilst in the midst of breaking down over the loss of parents. Eventually, she pulled herself together with a plan to dispose of the Yeti by burning it, however she did not get to execute it. A Prospero car arrived containing agents who inspected the Yeti, and after doing so, called in a helicopter to transport it away. The language and demeanour of the agents seemed to suggest that Prospero were behind the myths, or at the least had no qualms about letting people suffer if it meant getting their hands the myths.
Hunting Leatherface
After the events atop Chiliad, Eve set off on a mission to take down the other myths, to not only avenge her parents further, but also to stifle Prospero. She concluded through her research - combined with hearing a chainsaw during the call from her mother - that Leatherface was another of the myths come to life. In reality, her reasoning was somewhat flawed as it was Piggsy's chainsaw that she had heard, however she was coincidentally right about Leatherface.
With a new target, she journeyed to Leatherface's rumoured location: The Panopticon. Once more, CJ had beaten her to the punch, and was already embroiled in a brutal battle with the myth. She attempted to line up a shot on Leatherface as she desired to kill him herself, however it was made difficult by her lack of the desire to hurt CJ, and the close range nature of their fighting. A window presented itself when CJ knocked Leatherface to the floor, and she capitalised upon it straight away, executing Leatherface with a bullet to the head. CJ ran and took cover, prompting Eve to shout to him that she meant him no harm, and that if she did then he'd "have never made it off that mountain". Before CJ could get a look at her, she disappeared, venturing off in her car towards her next mythological target: Jason Voorhees.
Hunting Jason
Eve then drove to Jason Voorhee's rumoured location, the Shady Creeks Cabin. She waited around for some time for any signs of activity, but nothing happened. Eventually, she decided to search inside the cabin, which nearly proved to cost her her life as Jason returned. She ran out of the cabin with all her haste, though too fast to keep her balance, and stumbled to the ground. Fortunately, CJ had arrived, and managed to delay Jason with a sniper round, thus giving Eve time to escape. Eve then fought side-by-side with CJ as they attempted to - and eventually succeeded - in killing Jason.
With the fighting concluded, Eve spoke to CJ for the first time. Eve accused CJ and Prospero of being responsible for the myths, an accusation which CJ steadfastly denied. As evidence to her case, she brought up the chatter of the agents back on Chiliad, as well as the fact that they had taken the Yeti away in a helicopter. This stood at odds to CJ with what he had been told by Prospero's leader, The Custodian, allowing Eve to prod him that maybe he was being lied to, howeve CJ still remained loyal to Prospero. Based on the fact that she'd only just killed Leatherface, combined with how long it took the agents to arrive at Chiliad, she figured it was possible that Leatherface's remains had not been taken yet. As such, she offered to show him the truth with his own eyes.
CJ drove the two of them to The Panopticon in her car, and they arrived just in time to watch as agents took away Leatherface in a helicopter, exactly as they had done with the Yeti. Eve chided CJ by asking if he believed her now, and he responded that he didn't really have a choice. He gave her his phone number and prompted her to phone him if she should learn anything more, which she promised to do so. He also asked her to stay out of trouble and not hunt any more myths, which she could not make any promises about.
Heart of the Woods
After the events at Shady Creeks, Eve laid low for a while, in order to both recover mentally, and to comply with CJ's request. As CJ was seemingly on her side, she began to develop a level of trust and affinity for him - not the least driven by her mental issues beginning to onset from the loss of her parents - though she had no idea that he was ordered to, and initially more than prepared to, kill her. In her mental recovery, she had plucked up the strength to want to try and find her parents out in the woods. To this end, she phoned CJ, and pretended that she had myth information to share in order to gain his aid. CJ agreed to meet with her, and so she set off for the outskirts of Back o' Beyond.
When they both arrived, Eve urged him to follow her into the woods, though she refused to give him any details. They discussed what had happened since they last spoke, with Eve revealing that she'd stayed out of trouble like promised, and CJ revealing that they had a plan in place to track a deceased myth wherever it was taken, though he did not reveal that this plan was already well in motion.
As they journeyed into the woods, they eventually reached the Bloodpool. Eve broke down in tears as she noticed her family car beside the lake in beaten-up condition, as well as the body of her mother beside it. She ran over and cradled the body, telling CJ that it was her mother, and that she'd gone missing along with her father and several others. CJ searched the area and found a locket which she handed to Eve. Eve identified it as her mother's locket, and was eternally grateful to CJ for finding it. When CJ asked where the myth activity was, Eve said that there was none, and that she merely wanted his help in searching for her parents. Though CJ was somewhat disappointed at being misled, he told her that she did not need to lie, and he would have helped her even if she was completely honest about it. Both this act, combined with finding the locket, further developed Eve's feelings towards CJ.
After Eve recovered, CJ suggested that they leave for the night, and that she should call the police the following morning to inform them of her parents death. Eve agreed, and they began to leave, however they did not get very far. Eve's parents car suddenly came to life of it's own accord, becoming a ghost car, and proceeded to try and kill the pair. The battle was short but dangerous, and something of an emotional roller-coaster for Eve given that it was her family's car attempting to kill them without a driver, though they eventually succeeded and caused the car to explode. CJ then escorted Eve home, and left her alone after refusing her offer to spend the night with her.
Finding the Source
It would be some time before Eve was contacted by CJ again, however when she was, CJ furiously demanded an explanation as to why she'd killed one of his friends. She was dumbstruck by the accusation as she had no idea what he was talking about, a fact which CJ quickly accepted as he already knew the truth deep down. He then ended the call prematurely, knowing that his phone was being traced by The Custodian.
CJ phoned Eve again shortly afterwards, this time using a public payphone so that he could not be traced. He apologised for his earlier outburst and explained exactly what had gone on, as well as The Truth's final revelation that the source of the myths was "in the woods". He asked Eve to investigate, which she agreed to, and so she set off immediately.
When she arrived in the woods, she already knew where to look: The Bloodpool. It had been where her parents were when the myths first appeared, and so it was the logical place to search. As she watched, the pool opened, releasing another wave of myths into San Andreas; far too many for her to handle alone. She phoned CJ and told him what she'd saw and found, and so CJ set off to join her.
The End of Days
When CJ arrived, they proceeded to the Bloodpool, where they encountered Bigfoot. He seemed to be guarding it, and proceeded to engage them as they attempted to approach. The battle was lengthy and dangerous, with close calls for the both of them, however they gained the upper hand when Eve noticed that Bigfoot grew weaker the closer he was to the Bloodpool. By attacking him at it's centre, they were able to kill him, and with his death the pool collapsed in on itself, seemingly closing for good.
Now that the myths were dealt with, CJ phoned Sarah and told her that he was on his way to join her. Eve inquired where he was going, and he told her that he was going to stop The Custodian and bring him to justice for his crimes. She asked if she could join him, however CJ refused, saying it was something that he needed to do alone. Eve agreed, however she had no intention of letting him do it alone, and secretly followed him.
Betrayal by CJ
Eve followed CJ to Satellite Site Omega, on the outskirts of Las Venturas. Her passage through the facility was unchallenged to the lack of the personnel, and soon she stumbled across CJ and Sarah talking with The Custodian. This already hurt her, as CJ insisted that he needed to confront him alone, whereas he was here now with Sarah. She listened in covertly as they struck a deal with him, letting him live and refrain a free man for a short duration so that he could spend the remainder of his terminally ill daughter's life with her. This infuriated Eve, as she wanted The Custodian dead, though she kept her cool until CJ and Sarah exited the facility. Once she did, she confronted The Custodian herself, and wasted no time executing him.
Healing Kylie
With The Custodian dead, the myths stopped, and CJ having 'betrayed' her, Eve found herself alone in the world with no purpose. Before her was a child which she had - by her own intentional hand - placed in the same orphaned position that she was in. This filled her with guilt, and her guilt combined with her mental instability led her to take on the role of protecting Kylie. Though use of a healing object she possessed, she was able to heal Kylie of her terminal cancer, something which The Custodian had spent years trying and failing to do.
She cared for and protected Kylie as she grew up, and spent the years following training her to become a lethal and committed fighter, all whilst pouring lies into her head. She told Kylie that it was CJ and Sarah that killed her father, and thus they both had mutual business to settle with the pair.
