The Kitchen & Its Masterpieces

The kitchen staff consists of 12 elite chefs (eight halflings and four half-elves), led by Grand Master of Repasts Suleril Aleris, a half-elven culinary genius who has trained in the kitchens of Celene , Veluna , and the Grand Duchy of Geoff. Among their legendary dishes:

Rabbit Velunaise

A Velunese classic, featuring young rabbit, basted in a rich stock with carrots, onions, herbs, and garlic. The rabbit is then glazed and simmered in sparkling uskberry wine, drained before serving, and paired with buttered greens and a baked potato stuffed with garlic-sautéed fungi.

Almorian Stuffed Stirge

A rare delicacy, prepared with chestnut and wholemeal bread stuffing, seasoned with herbs and lemon. The stirge’s skin is rubbed with yarpick nut oil and ground pepper, enhancing its deep, rich flavor.

For groups of four or more, the whole stirge is mounted atop its own ribcage in a swooping posture, often accompanied by stuffed dormouse, olives, and capers. The dish is served with buttered greens, a tangy yogurt dip, and a sharp cranberry-like relish.

Other Signature Dishes

  • Celene Moonberry Cakes
  • Trout en Croûte with Melted Perrenland Cheeses and Herbs
  • Ixitxachitl Fillets with a Rich Sauce of Cream, Prawns, Lemon Butter, and Dill
  • Hundreds of other exquisite creations, tailored to the nobility’s tastes

Every dish is paired with wines and liqueurs of extraordinary quality, hand-selected by the Phoenix’s Master Sommelier.

The Accommodations

For those who can afford it, The Golden Phoenix offers the most luxurious lodgings in Greyhawk:

  • Single Room with Breakfast: 10 gp per night
  • Double Room with Breakfast: 15 gp per night

Each room features:

  • Goose-down mattresses and pillows
  • Rich carpets and elegant furnishings
  • Hot running water, thanks to a boiler enchanted with a permanent wall of fire
  • 24-hour room service

After weeks of perilous adventuring, few comforts compare to a stay at The Golden Phoenix.

Encounters at The Golden Phoenix

The Phoenix is not merely a place to rest and dine—it is where the powerful and influential gather. PCs who visit or stay here will rub shoulders with Greyhawk’s elite, including:

Grand Feasts are particularly prime opportunities for PCs to interact with high-ranking nobles, diplomats, and powerful mages.

However, the Phoenix is not without its dangers:

  • Thieves may target wealthy guests, leading to unexpected adventures.
  • Drunken noble students sometimes cause disturbances, though they are quickly and quietly removed.
  • If they persist, a notable mage patron may simply walk over and offer to polymorph them into something the chef can prepare for dinner—a threat usually heeded immediately.

For those who lack the gold for an extended stay, the Velunese Grill’s afternoon tea (2 gp) offers an affordable taste of The Golden Phoenix’s prestige.

For adventurers seeking opulence, intrigue, and high-society connections, The Golden Phoenix is unmatched.
