Org Nenshen
Despite its diminished size, the Thieves' Guild of Greyhawk continues to be a legendary organization, an ever-present shadow in the city’s underworld. And at its head, Org Nenshen walks the fine line between brilliance and self-destruction, determined to leave his mark on history—one daring heist at a time.
Guildmaster of the Thieves' Guild – Free City of Greyhawk
Org Nenshen was a rising star in the Thieves' Guild at the same time as Nerof Gosgol . The two often worked together, forming a formidable duo in their youth. Org was there on that fateful heist when Nerof fell victim to a mage’s magical trap, and it was Org who found him, paralyzed with terror. Though Nerof recovered, Org worked tirelessly behind the scenes to support his friend’s political career, ensuring that he gained influence within the city.
As Org advanced through the Guild, his name became synonymous with reckless confidence and extraordinary skill. When the reigning Guildmaster died, Org was unanimously chosen as his successor, and under his leadership, the Guild has thrived.
Org's early life is shrouded in uncertainty. He has no memory of his birthplace—his parents died when he was an infant, leaving him to be raised by his greedy cousin, Ramin of Greyhawk City. Ramin forced Org into a life of crime, exploiting his nimble fingers to fund his own lavish lifestyle.
However, Ramin’s schemes did not go unnoticed. The Thieves’ Guild soon caught wind of his unauthorized operations, and the Guildmaster himself ordered Ramin’s capture. When the truth was uncovered, Ramin barely escaped with his life, turned over to the authorities rather than being executed outright. Meanwhile, young Org was tested by the Guild and quickly proved his natural talent as a thief.
For Org, this marked the true beginning of his life. He thrived under the Guild’s tutelage, eagerly learning the arts of stealth, deception, and combat. His small frame and dexterity made him invaluable for slipping into tight spaces, and by sixteen, he was already a respected and skilled thief within the Guild.
During this time, Org forged a deep friendship with Nerof Gosgol. The two were fierce rivals but trusted allies, blending Nerof’s methodical caution with Org’s flamboyant, high-risk style. Together, they became known as the "Gruesome Twosome," amassing wealth by targeting those outside Guild protection—merchants, nobles, and corrupt officials.
Their rise was so meteoric that many within the Guild were relieved when Nerof turned to politics, fearing a future power struggle between the two. Instead, the Guild gained a loyal ally within the government, strengthening its influence over the city.
Guildmaster of the Thieves' Guild
Now, as Guildmaster, Org focuses on preserving the delicate balance between the Thieves’ Guild and the Directing Oligarchy. He knows that if Greyhawk falls, so too does the Guild, and he ensures that the city's prosperity remains intact.
Org is a compact, graceful man standing 5’9” and weighing 180 lbs. He has blond hair, violet eyes, and tan skin, always dressing sharply. His prized possession is a suit of elven chainmail, gifted by gray elves whom he assisted in recovering a stolen treasure.
Despite his leadership role, Org refuses to retire from active thieving. He still practices daily and personally trains the Guild’s most promising apprentices. His arsenal includes:
- A sling +1
- A flame tongue falchion
- A dagger of throwing
- A cloak of the bat
- A ring of jumping
- Boots of elvenkind
- His personal favorite: a chime of opening
He has also commissioned a new magic item, thieves' tools of opening, though they have not yet been created.
A Man at War with Himself
Despite his undeniable success, Org harbors deep insecurities. He secretly believes that he is not worthy of his position, that someone more qualified should have been Guildmaster. This self-doubt fuels his relentless ambition, pushing him to perform increasingly daring heists, long after most leaders would have retired to a life of luxury.
Even more troubling is his growing fear of aging. At 43 years old, Org knows that his agility will not last forever, and the thought terrifies him. To lose his edge would mean losing everything—his status, reputation, and self-worth. This fear drives him to greater and greater risks, challenging deadlier security, stronger magical wards, and even guardian daemons.
Many in the Guild worry for his safety, but none more than Mayor Nerof Gosgol. Though Nerof has long since given up his thieving days, he regrets the circumstances that led him into politics. He believes that if he were still at Org’s side, his caution could temper Org’s recklessness, perhaps prolonging his friend’s life. Yet, deep down, Nerof fears the inevitable—that one day, he will hear that Org has finally pushed his luck too far.
The Thieves' Guild of Greyhawk
To the common folk of Greyhawk, the Thieves' Guild is everywhere, its influence woven into the city's fabric. Mothers warn their children that if they misbehave, the thieves will steal them away in the night. If something goes missing, the blame instantly falls on the Guild—whether they were involved or not.
A Legacy of Shadow and Cunning
The Thieves' Guild is legendary throughout the Flanaess, a name whispered in fear and admiration. Tales of their unparalleled stealth and cunning spread across taverns and campfires, painting Greyhawk as a den of master thieves. Travelers are often warned away by distant innkeepers, recounting horrific stories of how the Guild can rob a man blind without him ever noticing.
In truth, the Guild is not as powerful as it once was. As Greyhawk prospered, more time and effort were spent by honest folk to counteract thievery. Additionally, the bloody war between former Guildmaster Arentol and Theobald’s Beggars' Union further weakened their ranks, reducing their pool of young talent.
Still, the Guild remains a force to be reckoned with. Its leader sits on the Directing Oligarchy, and several prominent merchants are secretly Guild members. Though thievery is still important, the Guild now prefers targeting outsiders—merchants, adventurers, and non-union traders—rather than disrupting the city’s own economy.
The Guild in the High Quarter
The High Quarter’s thieves are the best of the best—a small but elite group of master thieves, rarely seen in the city itself. Instead, they embark on guild-sponsored missions across the Flanaess, stealing from kings, nobles, and even entire governments. These missions range from recovering priceless artifacts to acting as spies for the Directing Oligarchy.
The Guildmaster, Org Nenshen, personally oversees these operations, ensuring that the Guild remains as skilled and influential as ever. It is even rumored that the legendary thief "Shadow," who recently stole the Jacinth of Inestimable Beauty from Niole Dra, is a member of this elite circle.
