Gold Dragon Inn
A bastion of opulence, exclusivity, and exorbitant prices, the Gold Dragon Inn is the epitome of social prestige in the Free City.
Nestled beside the Garden Gate, with the Royal Opera House and Grand Theatre mere steps away, the inn caters to Greyhawk’s elite. On nights of high society events, only those personally acquainted with the maître d' can expect to be seated without enduring a grueling two-hour wait. Even nobles are sometimes left cooling their heels.
Despite its prestigious reputation, the inn’s cuisine is far from the city’s finest, yet it commands prices at least 125% higher than those found in other elite establishments, such as The Golden Phoenix , The Wheel of Gold , The Patrician’s Club , The Star of Celene , and The Wizard’s Hat Inn .
The inn’s undisputed master is Alphonse Ordealle, an 11th-level mage who has presided over its affairs for twenty-five years. He uses his arcane prowess to subtly quell disturbances and, in times of dire need, can summon eight elite enforcers (4th-level fighters) from his kitchen and bar staff within mere moments.
The Gold Dragon Inn is a spectacle in its own right, with high ceilings, ornately carved beams, and relics from the fabled Cairn Hills displayed in glass cases. Among its treasures are:
- A massive sarcophagus, once home to an ancient mummy
- Intricately carved solid gold plates, crafted with mesmerizing geometric precision
- The feathered battle helm of a savage war-chief
- Artifacts from the legendary lost metal crypt, including a collection of unbreakable silver tools and a mysterious mirrored probe
Though priceless, these artifacts are so well-documented that even the most brazen thieves would struggle to find a buyer. Few would dare risk the ire of the powerful patrons who frequent the Gold Dragon Inn.
