Eldham-City

Overlooking the southern coast of the Crystal Moon Lake the city of Eldham sits surrounded by the common sight of towering walls of worked stone. Its streets are packed with the hustle and bustle of merchants, craftsmen, and other workers within the busy city. Small shops and market stands line the inner commerce ward, while thick black smoke rises up from the many workshops and forges within the eastern manufacturing ward. Even the fall of the night doesn't slow the city's streets, as the southwestern residential ward lovingly called Little Navara light's up with revelry, the sounds of music and celebration easily hard in the nearby wards.   Eldham however, hadn't always been the growing crafting and trade hub it is now, it had fallen into tough times when the canal in Locking was finished. The opening up of a direct trade line to Lancaster, Hilltop, and beyond caused the small city to lose the flow of travelers and trade that a growing city needs to stay on the map. Then after the events, the Long Night War things were looking grim for the city just like that of any other. However, as luck would have it the war did bring many refugees from Navara to the shores of Imin and while most of the cities of Imin either refused or simply lacked the space for many of them. Eldham welcomed them, seeing the value of an influx of artisans, craftsmen, and even workers. It was this influx of new citizens that breathed life back into the city and brought to where it is now.

Demographics

The population of Eldham is many made up of humans from both Narvan and Imin origins. However, there does exist a small population of various other races including Gnomes, Halflings, and even a scattered Half-Elves. Thou these outside races are usually uncommon within the city.

Government

As part of the Merchant's Conclave Eldham abides by their law and government.   However, on the local level, the city is run and maintained by Mayor Killinger Dorsey a somewhat portly man famed for his service in the Long Night War. Often seen with a cane and smoke pipe of white wood, the man is revered as a war hero for his daring defense of the evacuating medical forces and injured during the siege on Hilltop during the Battle.   The mayor is also aided in the enforcement of the Conclave's Laws by Guard Captain Ninaka. A Navarin native who enrolled within the Diamond Guard after the collapse of the Navarin Republic. The middle-aged woman had already survived as a member of the Naviran Peace Core, which gave her the experience to quickly raise up the ranks of the Diamond guard.

Defences

Eldham is defended by a standing force of 3,000 Diamond Guard troops that not only act as a policing force for the city but also a defense force in case of attack. The city is also protected by a large 20 foot large stone brick wall that wraps around the city from the coast of the Crystal Moon Lake. The walls of the city are also constantly manned by archers and ballista teams in case of attack, these measures were put into place after the siege of Hilltop.   The Court Warden Fort, Fort Garnet, also sits to the South of Eldham and has a standing force of 1,500 troops that can be called on for further aid.

Industry & Trade

Much of Eldham's industry is based around artisan work and coin spent by travelers heading further into the Northern Wilds. The many Navarin craftsmen that came to the city after the fall of their Republic has breathed new life into the goods and artisan crafts that stimulate the economy of the city. Various wares and items of Navarin make have become hard to come by due to the fall of the Island Republic, making the products made by the Navarin craftsmen of Eldham worth even more than what they would have been before.   This corner on the market combined with the uprising of various specialty shops and businesses that many travelers would find interested has helped further boost the economy of the city.

Infrastructure

While the outer walls of Eldham are made of large bricks of stone most of the inside infrastructure of the city has been made with planked wood. Homes, shops, warehouses, and other common buildings are made from well-cut planks from the trees of the nearby forested areas of the city. The exception to this, however, is the industrial district where most of the workshops and forges are made from either more common cobblestone or similarly worked stone to that of the city walls.   Much like other large cities of the Merchant's Conclave, Eldham also has a network of sewer lines running under the city. The lines themselves are fashioned out of worked stone with cross-sections of the waterway having metal dams that can be raised and lowered in case of increased or decreased water flow.   Eldham has also in recent years finished construction of a large stone and wood dockyard, allowing an increase in both trade and fishing vessels to make port within their city. The inner sections of the docks are fashioned from worked stone while the out docks have been made of hardy wood and anchored with stone.
