Royal Mages' Guild

The Royal Mages' Guild is The Mountainhomes' answer to The Magocracy, created as the Dwarves negotiated to join the Union of Granmor. Formed by consolidating dozens of disparate magic users' and enchanters' organizations, the RMG has quickly become the largest and most influential guild in all of Dwarven society.   The RMG is not as regimented as Magoc, but it is legally empowered to a similar extent. Because of the fact that magical items are far more ubiquitous in Dwarven society (and even more so in Gnomish society), the RMG has higher standards for what kind of goods it confiscated from the public. It also issues licenses to other guilds to craft, repair, and repurpose magical items according to its guidelines, which the Magocracy does not. The RMG also doles out rations of Charged Magicite, albeit in slightly larger quantities than Magoc.   Even so, the Royal Mages' Guild has created a lot of discontent in Dwarven and especially Gnomish society in its two hundred years of existence. Even with the maximum amount of leniency needed to please the Empire, the RMG has confiscated many Dwarves' important heirlooms and taken away many magical devices that Gnomes had been used to using in their daily lives. Non-magic users have little recourse in against these appropriations, and many have joined the guild just to learn a spell or two and get a membership just to have a shot at getting their property back. For this reason, despite the near-universal revulsion towards the RMG, nearly 30% of all Mountainhomes citizens are RMG members, including 90% of the Gnomish populations.   The RMG maintains close relations with the Yeomanry and the Imperial Theurgical SocietyThe Stonewardens are a major opposition and frequently work against RMG operations within any bureaucratic and legal means they can find. The Xethic Faction is also a major concern and has recently been linked to a number of terrorism and grand larceny incidents involving RMG property, personnel, and caches. It is only a matter of time until a crackdown occurs.
