Oaktops

One of the Three Ancient Villages, Oaktops was a logging community taking advantage of the River for their Mills. Carpentry is still huge as both a hobby and profession and the pieces coming out of Oaktree today are nothing less than masterful, with several houses in particular having received national recognition and audiences with the Emperor for their work. While the arboreal tradition is still held proud in Oaktops the district has changed with the times and is the artistic heart of Downtown, the epicenter of which is the famous Etade Theatre.   Though woodworking remains an affectionately held staple, the district has grown beyond the medium into a haven for physical artists of all kinds. From painters capturing the scenic Dryad Park to wall murals coating buildings and street performers on busy corners the centrality of art is visible throughout the district.   Beyond being a haven for artists Oaktops is known for its fine innovative cuisine and breweries--and gastropubs when the two mix. Add in museums, gardens, and a push towards a litter-free Granmont and you have an overall pleasant district for a night out.   Much of Oaktop's charm comes form its affluence. Due to its locality to Laurel it has a large population of knight, lesser nobles, wealthy merchants, and anyone with a financial interest in staying close to those in power. The heart of downtown where Etade Theatre sit has heavy traffic but wander upstream to wealthier blocks and those who look out of place run the risk of a confrontation with the watch. Attempt to cross Bascule Gate into Laurel and you risk your life.
