Caeneus
Caeneus is a fighter and a crew member of the Argo along with Jason, Calais and Zetes, Atalanta, and the main party. He has impenetrable skin, which he mentions was part of a "package deal," and an even more impenetrable mysterious past.
In Session 6: Sailing for Adventure, he displays discomfort around women and the sea. He tells Amara that he used to love the ocean, but doesn't anymore: "I made some bad decisions."
In Session 8: Blacksmith's Prayer, he reveals his backstory:
"Ever since I was a child, I wanted to be a boy. I was a boy, but people didn’t see me that way, and I wanted my body to be different. So I thought I’d make a pact with the gods. With Poseidon . He would… change me… into a man, and in return I would do whatever he wanted. And he wanted… to love me.
“For a while, we were happy—I think we really were in love. But you know my blade-proof skin? He gave that to me. I didn’t ask for it, and it made me feel like I owed him for it, and then I just felt used. So I left.”
Relationships
History
Caeneus, who is transgender, made a pact with the god Poseidon to give himself a male body. Poseidon took him as his lover and gave him impenetrable skin as well, but Caeneus grew dissatisfied and wondered if the god had ulterior motives or was using him to some end. Caeneus left the sea god and has had a rough relationship with the ocean ever since.
