First Sangraam Military Conflict in Ghosts of Saltmarsh | World Anvil

First Sangraam

The First Sangraam was the first major battle within the Parivaar Collection. While most rivalries have been resolved internally, this one was a notable exception.   Pujan Mereg Krentz manipulated the Articles of Agreement to consolidate power within the collective. While he did not work with the members in the Silverdeep Town Guard directly, he recruited their immediate family members. He blackmailed and bribed lesser pujan to swear loyalty to him. When unbranded recruits Joined the Parivaar instead of having them complete a minor heist, new recruits were sent to assassinate his rival Obaya Uday.   Seeing the central structure of the parivar collection crumbling, Obaya Uday ordered her Sahaayak to assassinate Krentz. The attempt was ultimately unsuccessful, but the poisons left permanent damage to the left side of his body. His facial nerves were so impaired that his smile only reached the right side of his face, and the leg had a prominent limp.   In retaliation, Krentz tried to banish Uday permanently from the parivaar collection. He summoned the other pujan and presented forged documents suggesting that Uday had coordinated her assassination attempt with a town's guard raid, a clear violation of the articles of agreement. Uday fiercely denied the claims and demanded an internal review of the documents. Before the documents were able to reach their destination a few days later they were destroyed mid-transport, dividing the parivaar into two factions.   The ensuing chaos caused massive disruption to Silverdeep's commerce and infrastructure. Over the next three weeks riots broke out in the streets, shop windows were destroyed by looters, and several buildings were severely damaged due to arson, forcing the guard to set up barricades, enforce curfews, and make sweeping arrests throughout the city.   Over the course of the conflict more than a dozen people were dead and hundreds were injured. Despite Krentz's efforts to consolidate power, Uday's parivaar alliances emerged victorious. As part of the aftermath of the sangraam, parivaars are required to notify each other of potential recruits.
