STATIC 50: Deep in Marrow

General Summary

Wherein the Blinkertons traverse the Bonefields, evade a relentless hunter, barter with unseen forces in the House of Unmaking, and provoke a being who drinks time itself.

The Hellbrand's Hunt

The Bonefields is not a place for rest, but the The Interdimensional Blinkerton Detective Agency had little choice after a brutal battle against ambushing minotaurs. As they gathered their strength, it became clear—they were being watched. Hunted.   Khorrith, the Hellbrand, made his presence known. A fiendish bounty hunter, he hunts not for gold but for the thrill of the chase. The Concern , recognizing that the Blinkertons threaten their hold over the Displacement, has placed a substantial bounty on their heads. Khorrith, however, is in no rush to collect. He cannot be bought off, but he can be entertained. The fight hasn’t begun. But it might.   Pushing forward, the party faced more horrors lurking in the Bonefields—Death Kisses rising from skeletal dunes. Corinna and Hypatia vanished into invisibility, tilting the battle in their favor. The creatures fell, but the Bonefields never forget.   Then, in the distance, the quasi-settlement they sought--a place called Marrow.

Marrow & the House of Unmaking

Marrow is a place that should not exist, yet does. A market, a carnival, a crossroads—its foundations stitched from forgotten roads, its stalls leaning like huddled figures waiting to be remembered. The air carries incense, unfamiliar spices, and the memory of rain that never fell. And at its heart, the House of Unmaking--a yurt called Dahlsem-Kurri--looms.   Upon entering the yurt, it was apparaent to our heroes that Dahlsem-Kurri does not ask for permission. It does not bargain. It simply takes and gives.
  • Hypatia lost the ability to write her own name but gained the power to see falsehoods in writing. A forged document unsettles her. A lie smudges beneath her touch.
  • Sharkbait lost the first song he ever learned but gained the ability to hear the music of places, the rhythm of moments. He can hum a town’s melody, feel it, change it.
  • Corinna Himmelswander lost the appearance of Fritz Himmelswander's face but gained the ability to hear echoes of past words. Conversations linger in the air, whispers from moments before, the last words of the dying.
  • Ra’a’l lost the memory of blood’s scent but gained the ability to sense death before it happens. The feeling presses against him—certainty without cause, knowing without knowing.
It remains unclear if this exchange is permanent.

Cup & Candle & the Long Drinker

Seeking respite, they entered the Cup & Candle, a tavern that does not call to travelers—it simply waits. Hundreds of candles burned on every surface, their flickering light casting shadows that never quite settled. The drinks always arrived in pairs—one for the guest, one for someone unseen. The second glass was never spilled, never moved, never acknowledged. But sometimes, when no one was looking, it emptied.   There, they happened upon the Long Drinker, who appeared to be a "time vampire." It wanted to share a drink, but the Blinkertons' curt response soured its mood. Combat followed. The Long Drinker was relentless, draining vitality and time itself. The battle raged until, suddenly, the creature vanished—but not before taking something from Corinna, a fraction of her life essence. I'm sure that's fine.

And That’s Where We Left It.

We'll see what else Marrow has in store for our heroes during our next session

Varied & Sundry Details

  • Khorrith remains a looming threat, his interest in the Blinkertons more about the chase than the kill—at least, for now.
  • The exchanges at the House of Unmaking were not deliberate choices. They simply happened. The Blinkertons left changed, for better or worse.
  • The Cup & Candle’s second drinks were, as always, untouched—except when they weren’t.

Rewards Granted

  • Chalice of the Twice-Tasted, left behind by the Long Drinker

Character(s) interacted with

Khorrith, the Hellbrand--A fiendish bounty hunter who relishes the hunt over the reward.
