STATIC 12: Frogs & Fractured Families
General Summary
Wherein the Blinkertons face the foes of Froggmorden
On the Notch
Under the guidance of Hurlburt, a seasoned Notch navigator, The Interdimensional Blinkerton Detective Agency continued toward their destination, Froggmorden. Their journey was not without complications, however. Some of those complications were innocuous, like Hypatia spying an owlbear with gills--definitely Displaced--enjoying some mud. Others were decidedly less so, like the assassin vines that tangled up Nero Rubicant and Corinna Himmelswander. The fight was surprisingly brutal, with Hurlburt lending assistance through some well-placed acid flasks. After combat concluded, Sharkbait witnessed a strange sight on shore--a raccoon locked in combat with a crocodile. The croc was clearly winning until the racoon somehow unhinged its jaw--well, probably its whole body--and swallowed the croc whole. It became apparent that this was, in fact, some sort of racoon/NOT RACCOON entity from beyond. This realization psychically scarred our young bard, rendering him near unconscious. A reprieve from this strangeness came in the form of a lizardfolk shaman named Szro, who was an acquaintance of Hurlburt. As it is, apparently, tradition to share news with travelers up and down the Notch, Szro asked the Blinkertons what was new. Hypatia told of the vine fight they just had, while Sharkbait shared his vision of the raccoon/NOT RACCOON. Corinna mentioned Tith Jilrad's pursuit of Station Agent for Crackeel Landing and Nero told tale of their fabulous feats among the The Cutters. Thankful for this news, Szro shared with them the following words: Genteel for Sharkbait, Cerulean for Hypatia, Glass for Nero, and Tyrant for Corinna. Who knows what these could portend? The party thanked Szro for the words and finally made their way to Froggmorden. The Battle of Froggmorden
The Blinkertons were aware that Servants of the Sad Star don't get summoned for small matters, so they were unsurprised to find Froggmorden in distress. The residents of this hamlet have been forced from their homes by cultists of Elcorax, who appear to be especially interested in the strange tree that has been Displaced in the middle of Froggmorden Pond. Svonalimm--the individual they sought--explained all of this to them, and, after being informed of the Blinkerton's inquiry, explained a bit more about the person they call the Gold Earring'd One. His name is Elaugzar Wyrdloom and he is her brother. Their village was destroyed by marauding raiders, killing their parents and young sibling in the process. Svonalimm devoted herself to the Servants in her grief. Elaugzar--called Auggie--became obsessed with temporal relationships. While his research predates The Displacement, she has no doubt that he is heavily involved in research and investigation of the phenomenon. She believes this obsession stems from a need to somehow "save" their parents and sibling. She has Auggie's notebook, which very well might prove illuminating. The problem is that it is in Froggmorden. If the Blinkertons would help secure the settlement for the people, then they could retrieve the journal. They agreed and Corinna was adamant that this battle be sought that night. The rest of the Blinkies, desiring a much needed rest, presuaded her to wait until morning. That morning came and our detectives set out with Limm to deliver the hamlet of Froggmorden. This involved fighting just a whole bunch of cultists. As they fought, a forcefield of some sort was created around the Displaced tree, and angry looking fey kept leaping out of it. Nothing could be done to pierce the field, so they headed to Froggmorden Hall for a showdown with whomever was in charge. This resulted in more dead cultists (along with a couple of bulezau that they were attempting to summon to sow discord). The forcefield did not abate, however, and they were wondering just how to solve this particular problem. Luckily, they weren't alone in the Hall. Some sort of bee devil-demon was in there with them, inadvertently trapped by the clumsy cultists. And it had a proposition for our heroes. And That's Where We Left It
We'll see what this bee devil/demon thing proposes to the Blinkertons during our next session.Varied & Sundry Details
