Servants of the Sad Star

The Servants of the Sad Star is an order of brethren that takes up hopeless causes.   Some of their order are seeking redemption for previous misdeeds. Others are individuals who have been saved by the mission of the Sad Star in the past. Still others are Servants for their own reasons.   None live very long.

Structure

The Servants maintains a small headquarters in The Dozen district of Gatt, which is primarily used as mustering point and to solve issues of logistics and supply.

The nature of their undertakings make the Servants a nomadic order by necessity, as they travel to wherever they are needed.   As the type of assignments the Servants take on vary, so too does the number of Servants delegated to those assignments. Sometimes Servants travel in large groups, other times in small patrols, and, occasionally, as single Servants dedicated to a particular task.

Culture

Famously, the Servants do not recruit. Potential members are expected to seek the order out--that journey is part of what it means to join.    Nobody is asked their reasons for joining. Some may disclose that. Many do not.

Assets

Servants are not expected to take an oath of poverty, but material possessions beyond the needed basics are frowned upon.

History

The first Servant of the Sad Star was Tathel Baltwelth, who founded the order to atone for her actions as a knight in the service of an unworthy lord. For several years, she was the only Servant. But word of her deeds--dedication to seemingly futile undertakings that seek to bring safety and solace to the downtrodden--spread and others joined her in this endeavor.   The Servants themselves deem the start date of their existence to be in 901 AC, with the successful defense of small farming hamlet against a particularly bloodthirsty warlord. Baltwelth, and fourteen other like-minded warriors, stood against this threat, earning the thanks and support of the neighboring lands.   From this moment, the order grew.
