Siege of Amydon

The siege of Amydon is seen as the turning point in the First War of the Broken Holds⁣ where the Kingdom of Serica⁣ gained the upperhand in the fight pushing them out of the city of Amydon. The Siege of Amydon is a bit of a misnomer as the Dwarven forces⁣ stormed the city the same day they arrived, but is still called the siege of Amydon in historical texts.

The Conflict

Prelude

The dwarves fresh of the victory at the Battle of Rodip⁣ wanted to capitalize on their success and received word from their scouts that the city was being evacuated, but a large number of Sericans still remained. King Morlen⁣ saw this as an excellent opportunity to land another crushing blow to Serica⁣ and win the war there and then. House Brodik⁣ decided to stay in the city of Amydon as it was their house's city they build from the ground up and they weren't going to see it taken or destroyed by the Dwarves.   King Histoph⁣ wanted House Brodik⁣ to evacuate the city so they could consolidate their forces and be able to take on the dwarven armies. Upon their refusal King Histoph⁣ realized that the fall of Amydon could spell the end of Serica⁣ as there were a significant number of troops stationed there allowing the dwarves to destroy the remaining Serican army. King Histoph elected to march his troops to aid Amydon

Deployment

Hearing of the destructive power of the Dwarven⁣ artillery House Brodik⁣ chose to station their ground troops spread out through the city while leaving their longbowmen on the walls to try and inflict what casualties they could before they entered the city. The elite guards fortified the keep in a bid to secure the Brodik family for as long as possible.   King Morlen⁣ setup their artillery lines around the outskirts of the city and set the shieldbearers in front of the artillery to absorb the shots coming from the walls. King Morlen⁣ organized the hammerers to be ready to storm the city once the walls were destroyed.

The Engagement

Once the dwarven artillery was setup King Morlen⁣ ordered them to open fire on the walls. The first salvos were devastating and brought the walls down within a few minutes killing all of the archers atop of those walls. King Morlen⁣ then ordered the shield bearers forward to protect the advance of the shield bearers. Once in the city the fighting was fierce and bloody and lead to quite a few casualties on both sides, but House Brodik⁣ took significantly more casualties and were losing ground in the city quickly. The troops in the city held their ground as best they could fighting tooth and nail for each street, building, and plaza taking as many attackers with them as they could.   The Dwarven⁣ continued to press through the city and made their way to the city's keep. They began to attempt to tear down the fortifications and break down the front door. As the Dwarves⁣ finally broke into the keep King Histoph⁣ and his army arrived and flanked the forces remaining outside of the city. King Histoph ordered his cavalry to ride down the artillery. The Dwarven artillery crew spotted the coming hordes and turned their guns to face them, but only managed to fire a single salvo before the light cavalry crashed into the artillery crews. The hammerers that remained outside of the city protecting the artillery engaged the light cavalry and at that time the Serican⁣ heavy cavalry crashed into their rear. This caused those dwarven units to route opening a gap for Serican infantry to press into the city and begin flanking the Dwarven units still engaged with the few remaining House Brodik⁣ soldiers holding on.   King Histoph and his forces began to route Dwarven units in the city and they attempted to prevent them from fleeing the city, but the amount of breaches in the city's walls made that task impossible allowing many dwarves to escape and rally at another point. King Histoph pushed his way through the city to the keep trying to save the remaining Brodik family members, but found every single household member dead in the keep. King Histoph finished killing, capturing, or routing the remaining dwarves in the city resecuring it for Serica⁣, or at the very least what was left of it.

Outcome

King Histoph⁣ managed to route the dwarves out of the city of Amydon and lead to the first major victory for Serica
