Peresov Nereus

Consul Peresov Nereus

Peresov Nereus was born to one of the wealthiest family of traders in Vernica. The Nereus family made a fortune simply transporting goods from the old world on ships or wagons to other portions of the Republic. Peresov decided that he wanted to become a senator and fight for the greater glory of the Republic. Nereus became a centurion under the command of Evander during the First Albion Wars. He distinguished himself in combat and was said to have been the reason for success on the left wing during the Battle of Corvine Hills. When Evander was sent to help Solden Peresov was promoted to legate of the legions stationed on the borders of Albion and Vernica. The border provinces was fairly tame during this time only beating back a few orc raids. When time came for reinforcements to be sent to Solden Nereus used the influence he gained as well as his family's influence to become the legate of the reinforcing armies hoping to gain a significant amount of standing for himself and his family's name. After much cajoling he managed to secure command of the forces and boarded the ships to cross the straits.   Upon arrival he assessed the situation from reports sent by Evander. He thought the best course of action would be to provoke the remaining forces of Solden into conflict to finally put them out of action. He began sieging Solden itself and requested Evander come as quickly as possible. As the siege continued something surprising happened, several officers from both Vernica and Solden approached the siege camp and informed him of the coming army of Those of Gaulren. Nereus quickly requested the presence of Lotrus and informed him of the situation bringing several Solden officers as witness saying they had been tricked into this conflict by Those of gaulren and the only way to weather the storm would be to fight together. Lotrus was exceedingly skeptical and knew this had to be a ruse. After much deliberation and interrogation of the officers the army of the King of the First made their presence know to those manning the walls. Lotrus immediately knew this meant the destruction of Solden and allowed Nereus and his legions into the city and they immediately began reinforcing lines leading to The Fields of Solden.   Once the armies were pushed off of Solden Nereus made his way back to Vernica with his legions and assumed the consulship after the suicide of Polipsis and was the first consul not from the Vernicus family line. Nereus then took his armies to meet the invading armies of Albion during The Second Albion Wars. Once Nereus had resecured the borders of Vernica he returned to his talks with Lotrus about their invasion of Hadasht and began making preparations.   When Nereus finally set out for what would be eventually be called the First Hadasht Expedition he expecting a relatively brief campaign simply taking out the deserter legionnaires, making a few treaties with the locals and returning back to Vernica to strike the final blow on Albion and turn them into a province. Nereus and his armies had some trouble landing, but when they finally did he realized it would be necessary to establish a base of operations as this conflict was going to be much longer than he had hoped. as the First Hadasht Expedition progressed and eventually lead to the Battle of Chamoria Nereus was beginning to realize that should he over extend and lose significant number of troops that could lead to Albion gaining the courage to attempt another attack. Nereus began retreating to Tarconesis ceding territory to them and waiting until he could turn the tribes against the coalition again.   This would not come to pass though, the coalition used the retreat of the legions to secure the tribes to be at the very least neutral in the fighting and sieged Tarconesis. As Nereus began the evacuation of the legions and got on the last transport ship, the ship was hit by several catapult shots sinking and killing Nereus.
