Polipsis Vernicus
Polipsis Vernicus was born to the Vernicus family, the family who had been ruling the province of Vernica for the last almost millennia and a half. He had distinguished himself as a senator and was one of the senators who took a hardline stance against Albion. He believed that Albion owed them for the stage they had set in dealing with the orcs and believed they had occupied lands that rightfully belonged to the Republic. Most of Vernica believed this as well but there was still a large number of senators that didn't want to risk provoking a war with Albion when the orc threat was still so high.
Polipsis's wife eventually gave birth to his only child that survived past childhood, Evander. He raised the boy in the art of war and battle hoping for him to become a great general one day. When Polipsis saw that he had a natural talent for combat and tactics he sent him to the fledgling province of Luclana to begin securing it and allowing it to formally become a part of the Republic as Solden did a century ago with Plania. He placed him as second in command to the legate there and he quickly showed himself to be a competent commander even garnering the respect of the legionnaires. The situation in Luclana seemed to stabilize and the orcs were pushed out of the plains many of the making their way into the Vostok forest creating a large number of problems for Albion. Polipsis saw this as his opportunity and when he secured the consulship of Vernica he immediately reformed the legions along the borders of Albion and invaded a few months later leading to the First Albion Wars. He placed his son Evander as the legate, a hotly contested issue, but Polipsis managed to secure the appointment. Polipsis was delighted at the reports Evander was sending home and Albion was forced to sue for peace and Polipsis carved a swath out of Albion's lands to be added to the recently formed province of Luclana. Polipsis then received a plea from Lotrus Soldicus, current consul of Solden, that they needed help from the Vernican legions against the encroaching Those of Gaulren. Polipsis agreed in return for being able to setup outposts and trading posts in Solden lands. Polipsis had plans to siphon off some of Solden's wealth for Vernica to fund the next invasion into Albion. Polipsis sent Evander to lead the legions that were victorious against Albion to help.
Polipsis was told by the flamen of Abadar that Solden planned on betraying Vernica and destroying their legions sent to help. Polipsis was worried that Lotrus was planning on usurping Vernica and taking control of the Republic for himself. He ordered Evander to prepare to attack Solden's legions leading to the events of The First Republican Civil War.
After the news reached him that his son Evander fell in battle and Nereus began to work with Solden to defeat the attacking armies of The King of the First Polipsis realized it would only be a matter of time before the senators turned on him for causing the events that happened he took his own life.
