Vanrans

Dalran: Vanrere
Vanrere (dalríska)

The vanrans1 are one of the cultures found within the empire of Dalra, whose native territory covers most of the southwestern Zamra Mountains. Once a major power in the mountains, they've since been overthrown by the Dalrans and now function as a religious caste as much as an ethnic group within the empire.

History

After the civilization of the ancient Ilaxarans collapsed at the end of bronze age, eastern Emlas became a chaotic place and saw the rise of new kingdoms and city states, some ruled by tribes that were once subjects of the ilaxarans or other old civilizations, others by newcomers from other places in Emlas or beyond.
While the lowlands became dominated by Þekkals, Enans, Húlpakrans and other groups, in the highlands -previously a home to scattered nomadic tribes- the vanrans established their own kingdom and later empire. Their wars with the Akalúrans often left their subjects in the mountains neglected, which eventually lead to them rebelling under leadership of the dalrans, who finally overthrew the vanrans.

Culture

Dalran culture is heavily influenced by vanran art, architecture and religion, to the point that it's difficult to distinguish the two, especially since vanrans today function more as a religious caste in dalran society rather than as a distinct ethnic group. One notable feature is their clothing, as men and women alike wear distinctive scarf, often wrapped around their neck and head during rituals.
