Jatrilnúxans

Rexlas: Jatrilnúxei
Jatrilnúxei (rexíska)
Jatrilnúxan: Terejarú
The jatrilnúxans1 are native to southwesternmost Laxilþía, a region that's part of Grúmalx, a province of the empire of Resak. Their culture is heavily influenced by that of the Pakrans, and in turn was adopted extensively by early Rexans.
Jatrilnúxans are renowned for their craftsmen, musicians and scholars, and their horses and wine are highly sought after in Resak and beyond.

History

Unlike most cultures of Laxilþía, the jatrilnúxans were not subjects of the ancient Káaxans during bronze age, though they had some contact with them via long distance trade. After the collapse of the káaxan empire and rise of new states across southern Laxilþía, both Enans and especially Pakrans founded colonies along the coast in jatrilnúxan territory, the former introduced new techniques in pottery, viticulture and architecture, the latter influenced art, clothing and religious practices.
As jatrilnúxan towns grew into city-states, they became the dominant culture in the region and conquered many tribes in the Kalis Swamp to the north, including the rexans. The latter eventually proved bold enough to challenge the jatrilnúxans under the leadership of Úxakkus, who managed to conquer their city-states one by one and afterwards made the region the first province of Resak.
Jatrilnúxan culture is still highly regarded by the rexans, and many old dynasties of jatrilnúxan descend enjoy special status within the empire.

Culture

Apparel

Although most jatrilnúxans today wear similar clothes as rexans, their traditional clothing is quite different from the latter; instead of loincloth, men only wear cloaks and tall opened-toe shoes, and women's dresses are generally longer and made of thinner material than their rexan counterparts.
Body-paint consists mostly of long lines along arms and sometimes legs, usually made from bright blue pakran dye. Dreadlocks are common, especially for men.

Cuisine

Rexan cuisine consists mostly of bread and porridge, vegetables, goat meat, fish, crabs and wine, the latter which is considered some of the finest in Laxilþía.

Language

Jatrilnúxan language is an isolate, but written using an alphabet adapted from pakran script. Though its use has declined in everyday life, the rexans use it extensively in religious context and prior to pakran tongue becoming popular, jatrilnúxan was the language of scholars and the aristocracy.

Religion

Jatrilnúxan mythology greatly influenced rexan religion, and the resulting syncretism has become so extensive that only scholars can point out most of the differences with any certainty. The main difference is that while both people believe the world to be in its fourth stage of existence, the rexans believe the current period is the final one while jatrilnúxans think that there are more to come.
