En (eníska)

En is the main city of Ohúlsa, the southern county () of Vakúlstó, the northern quarter (stó) of the empire of Dalra. It's located in the northwesternmost part of the Zúdalikí Desert, on the coast of Úrtal Sea.

Demographics

Most of the inhabitants are Dalrans and Enans, along with smaller communities of Þekkals and Orrólans.

Defences

The city is defended by impressive walls in traditional enan style, with bas-reliefs adorning the foundations on the inner side.

Industry & Trade

En is an important source of fine cloth, purple dye and various goods obtained from Túlmikkía.

Infrastructure

The city is bisected via main street running from the harbour to the main gate, flanked by colonnades, artisans' workshops and -closer to the harbour- shops and taverns of all sorts.

History

En was one of the first cities founded by the enans and among the most important, owing to its excellent natural harbour, and its people established a number of colonies throughout the world, including Nat in Túlmikkía and Núldaxis in Laxilþía. The city was a major rival of Úxó to the south, and both claimed to be the true centers of enan civilization.
The people of En not only joined, but outright requested becoming part of Dalra after the dalran emperor Valrakates II unexpectedly attended their king's funeral and showed him great respect, without asking for anything in return.

Architecture

Most structures are made from clay and mud-bricks, with homes of the rich and official buildings being made of stone, sometimes featuring wooden columns, but only the most important temples and the governor's mansion is built entire of timber.
Wood, being a scarce resource in the desert, is a luxury good among the enans, and is still treated as such even though they've better access to it from other parts of the empire.
