Hrafnawyld

Hrafnawyld is a large island off the northwest coast of Abhagan, and is home of the Wylden civilization. Before The Godswar, the entire landmass was part of Abhagan; the two were separated during the War in an event known to the Wylden as The Cleaving.

It is alternatively known, particularly by the Zendylite Empire, by the continental name of Ehrmegan.

Geography

Hrafnawyld is a large island with varied terrain. The southernmost Jórveifen of Sílfurlúnðr (Silverlands) and Súðejasvík are characterised by rolling hills, grassy plains, meadows, small woods, and extensive streams and rivers, making them ideal for agriculture and cultivation.

Further north and east, in Svartarfjallr (Black Mountains) Jórveif, the terrain is very mountainous and rocky, with extensive forests; however, the land south of the inhabited regions of Svartarfjallr drops off steeply to give way to the Great Black Sand, Svartargánæmörk, and to the north lies the mossy wasteland of the Green Desert Grænæmörk.

Northwest from Svartarfjallr, Hrafnafjorðen (Ravenfjords) Jórveif juts out into the northern ocean, full of mountains, sharp cliffs, fjords, ancient forests, and a large glacial sheet of ice, Hrafnajökull (Raven's Glacier). Its inhabitants mostly travel and communicate by water, as their are few usable land routes in this exceedingly rugged country.

Northeast from the Black Mountains lies the massive glacier of Icewall that constitutes most of the territory of Ísvalðjökull (Icewall Glacier) Jórveif. Though most of Icewall is a bleak landscape of ice, snow, and stone, there are isolated geothermal pockets and life-supporting rocky regions that allow the hardy Wylden population to survive. Even so, it is by far the least populated of the six Jórveifen.

Finally, in the extreme northeast is Norðrfjorðen (Northfjords) Jórveif, characterised by cold, ice fjords and chill, windswept tundras, with glacial rivers flowing throughout.

Climate

Hrafnawyld's climate is as varied as its vast terrain. In the Silverlands and Súðejasvík Jórveifen, the summers are cool and mild, with chill and rainy winters. Further north, the climate grows colder and more forbidding, with fierce winter storms lashing the coastal settlements of the Ravenfjords and thick snows covering the interior highlands. Likewise, the Black Mountains are characterised by chill, dry alpine summers, and cold, snowy winters. Icewall Glacier is an arctic desert of windblown ice, and the Northfjords, while inhabitable along the extensive coast, are a cold, windy expanse of half-frozen grasses and frigid glacial rivers.

Natural Resources

Hrafnawyld is abundant with natural resources. Vast forests, particularly in the Ravenfjords and Black Mountains, provide ample timber for building, and for the construction of the ships which are necessary for much of the transportation and communication around the island. The towering Black Mountains, in addition to providing plenty of quarried stone for myriad uses, also contains mines from which many useful materials are gathered, particularly fine iron for the making of steel, and the famous Wylden Silver . Game, fish, and livestock are abundant in various places around the island.
