Ancient Targos
The nation now referred to as "Old" or "Ancient" Targos (to distinguish from the present-day state of Targos), was the country that immediately preceded the Zendylite Empire. Its capital city was the eponymous Jewel of the West, Targos.
History
Ancient Targos was considered to have been established as a nation with the founding of the eponymous city of Targos c.500BTC. For five centuries, the Targotian people expanded their territory north- and eastward across what was then a vast expanse of highland plains. When the Targotian Cataclysm occured, this region was shattered and broken over the course of nearly a year of upheavals, scattering and devastating the Targotian people, and forming what is now the Targotian Sea.
Though the capital was badly damaged by the repeated quakes and associated disasters, it and its people survived and, after the upheaval subsided, they wearily rebuilt.
For over two centuries the Targotians stubbornly pressed on, and in 289ATC they founded a new major city, Carosh, on the eponymous Bay of Carosh.
By 400ATC, the Targotians were fully resurgent, founding Col Shaphel as an eastern administrative city for their growing nation. With the expanding size of the country, the ruling Targarch recognized the necessity of delegating regional authority, and created the office of Colarch.
In 541ATC, Col Aylia was founded as a Colarchial seat of yet further eastward expansion.
Disbandment
In 1025ATC, Zendyl Heste do Shaphel staged a coup in which he overthrew and executed the ruling Targarch, Kimil Atoria do Targos. After doing so, he proclaimed the establishment of the Zendylite Empire, ending the old Targotian state.
