Wakerest
In the 347th Cycle of the Weave, Era of the Awakening, Wakerest thrives as a secluded sanctuary at the edge of reality, where the mortal world brushes against the ethereal dreamscape. Hidden outside the Forest of Hallucination, Wakerest is a haven for the devout followers of Twilight, serving as both a refuge and a threshold to the Weave. Mist drifts through its cobblestone streets, muffling quiet conversations and distant bells, while flowers bloom in impossible hues and echoes of laughter and song fill the air at twilight. Despite its tranquility, an undercurrent of unease suggests Wakerest is aware of the storm brewing within the dreamscape.
At the center of Wakerest is Selfseer Shem, the village's Nightspinner. His serene guidance anchors the dozen dream farmers who live within its borders. These caretakers hold ranks within the Sepulchre of Twilight, tending to the strands of the Weave with delicate precision. They act as gardeners, nurturing the threads of dreams and nightmares alike, in devotion to their goddess, Twilight. Her neutrality demands that both light and dark visions be preserved as conduits of divine will.
Though uncommon, Shem greets newcomers by weaving enchanted silken threads into necklaces, a tradition that allows mortals to breathe the starlit dust of the Weave. His leadership extends to the town’s monument, a sacred structure used to commune with Twilight. However, since the Orbicus was taken from Dawnlight, all external communication has been severed, deepening the village's isolation.
The village’s surreal beauty is reflected in its vibrant ecosystem. Purple grass blankets the ground, and a strange river winds through the area, shimmering faintly with dreamlike energy. Nocturnal animals coexist with the dream farmers: coywolves provide companionship, sugar gliders and moths flit through the air, and owls perch on thatched rooftops, ever watchful. Even dawn is welcomed, heralded by roosters whose crows gently stir the dreamers awake.
Wakerest’s community thrives under the protection of a magical barrier called the Deep Quiet. This shield was crafted to repel larger threats like Night Terrors or Delusionairies, though smaller creatures, such as Reveries, still find ways to infiltrate, plucking at the strands of the Weave within the shield. The dream farmers must remain vigilant, defending their sanctuary from these intrusions.
Wakerest serves as a beacon for those who seek a deeper connection to the Weave. The town inn provides respite for travelers embarking on the Drift Trail, while its location at the edge of the dreamscape offers a glimpse into the surreal wonders of Twilight’s domain.
