Selfseer Shem
Selfseer Shem, once a mortal Croak monk from Galfin, chose the Weave as his eternal sanctuary in the Second Era. Drawn by Twilight’s dominion over dreams, he abandoned his earthly life and sent his sleeping self into the dreamscape, pledging his soul to her service. Through years of meditation, Shem attuned to the shifting currents of the Weave, becoming its vigilant guardian. Twilight, recognizing his faith, gifted him the rare ability to traverse tether points, allowing him to safeguard both realms and protect the divine essence of dreams.
The rise of the Lucidity, or Bagman, transformed Shem’s purpose into a desperate struggle. This parasitic entity, lurking in bags of holding, preys on the dreams of mortals, spreading fear and unraveling the threads of the Weave. Once a trickster, the Bagman has grown into a malevolent force, severing dreamers’ ties to Twilight and threatening the balance of the dreamscape. As the goddess’s influence weakens, Shem hunts the creature, determined to unravel its newfound power.
Shem’s resolve was tested when the Shatterbrand arrived in Wakerest, inadvertently shattering the protective anchor that shielded the commune from Night Terrors. Despite the breach, Shem aided the strangers, their combined efforts fending off the invaders. With the barrier weakened, he now journeys to Dawnlight to procure a Dream Anchor, venturing deeper into the perilous dreamscape where Reveries and Interlopers await.
Cloaked in a woven starfield, Shem walks the Drift Trail with calm determination, his faintly glowing eyes a reminder of his connection to the Twilight’s realm. A master of the Weave’s balance, he is haunted by whispers of forgotten dreams and the temptation to surrender to the dreamscape’s peace. Yet, as the Bagman’s shadow looms and Twilight’s essence wanes, Shem’s path remains clear: to protect the dreamscape, defend Twilight’s realm, and preserve the fragile hope of those who dare to dream.
