Zaltin Corporation

Rsaha woke up with a searing wheeze and a blaze of panic. Where was she? She groped about in the darkness, realizing with a hazy stupidity that her eyes were squeezed shut. Opening them with effort, she found herself in a sparkling white medbay, spicule of bacta threaded into her collarbone. She was draped in a chelating gown.   That's right. She reminded herself what had happened. She'd been caught out in a meteorite burst while mining, clipped by a shard of slag across the upper chest and slipped half out of her suit like a ruptured balloon. She remembered the pain of the exposure to vacuum, the brazing of radiation rippling over her body, and then darkness. Now Rsaha was sucking on a soft threaded tube of oxygen and bacta, repairing the burst vessels in her lungs, and her blistered, burst skin was almost healed already from their explosion exposure to the elements.   "I almost slept through the whole blasted mess," Rsaha thought to herself as she tenderly traced her fingers over the medical logo of the gown she was wearing: Zaltin Corporation.

Structure

The Zaltin Corporation is based on a stockholder hierarchy that has long since fossilized into an aristocratic class system. Shares in the company relate directly to leadership authority of the company, and since shares are limited by family the rivalries and marriages between families have direct impact on the viability of the families to control Zaltin.

Public Agenda

Zaltin is principally concerned with general export and sale of bacta products, making its supply an everyday commodity for the known galaxy. Supplying private hospitals and medical distributors throughout the galaxy comes with a substantial reduction in quality control, especially since Zaltin often deals with merchants and traders rather than ship their product themselves. So while Zaltin bacta may be available on Outer Rim and alien worlds that Xucphra would never bother with, it comes at a premium price and reduced quality.   Zaltin also produces a number of quality-of-life drugs related to long-term exposure to non-native environments. They have tailored treatments for radiation, barometric, and toxin exposure, as well as curatives for long-term gravity ailments common on frontier worlds of non-standard composition.

Assets

Zaltin commands a modest security force in its headquarters and main production facilities. Thyferra HQ has several hundred security forces and two squadrons of dedicated airspeeders in addition to a small fleet of personal repulsorcraft. Other facilities merit perhaps a hundred security and a handful of airspeeders--or fighters, in the case of their station in the █████████ system.

History

Founded by a cabal of Rim-based merchants, the Zaltin Corporation began as an answer to Republic bureaucracy. In 182 BRS, the Republic was completely caught off-guard to a plague in the Expansion Region. Between not having the reserves at hand to meet the afflicted worlds' needs and being ill-equipped to negotiate terms to trade locally with the Hutts' control of much of the region, the Republic was at a loss and quickly saw millions of its citizens die in the affected systems.   In 183 BRS, an alliance of merchants in the Expansion Region banded together to make a trade deal with the Hutts while also completely cutting off Republic aid in the area in question, effectively positioning the new Zaltin Corporation as a stand-in for the Republic's ailing medical aid supply line. In return, Zaltin setup a supply point directly on Thyferra with Republic sanction, adding to the eight cartels present on the planet at the time. By 186 BRS, the plague in the Expansion Region had been completely wiped out and the Zaltin Corporation was recognized as one of the most influential bacta producers on Thyferra--if only for a time. With the need for plague-strength bacta ebbing and the leverage of their deal with the Hutts expiring, Zaltin began to diversify its products and move away from the shipping and supply industry.   By 60 BRS, Zaltin was a vested pharmaceutical firm with a diverse set of products designed for frontier and colonial concerns not necessarily resorting to bacta treatments. They sought to deal with widespread suppliers and traders across the far reaches of the galaxy, trading on the weight of their steady income from bacta to produce products throughout their corporate empire. When the unrest on Thyferra forced the Republic to eliminate the old cartel system, they were allowed to remain on Thyferra less because of their bacta products and more because the capital bacta generated for them allowed the rest of Zaltin's portfolio to thrive.   By 30 GSC, Zaltin has maintained less than 20% market control of the Empire's bacta, but they do supply the majority of the galaxy's outlying bacta suppliers. Including those markets ending up in criminal control.

Occasional Contracts

CCR has had several botched contracts with Zaltin in the past that have hurt both factions' reputations.

While the Ashern still attack Zaltin facilities, both sides have had testy negotiations in the past.
