Commercial Combine Remnant

Structure

Although the CCR is almost purely a mercenary guild, it retains much of its structure from its days under Stark, when it was defined by merchant and smuggler hierarchies. The CCR is loosely commanded by a single Guild Lord, who negotiates and assigns the most important contracts, directs guild assignments, and handles high-level disputes within the Combine.   Beneath the Guild Lord are the Guild Masters. Each one of them leads a guild of the Combine, which functions as a largely independent cabal of ships and crews that operate within loosely defined zones of influence. A guild consists of at least fifty and as many as several hundred ships of various sizes.   Next are the Journeymen of the Combine. They are senior shipmasters capable of special exemptions within their guild and able to set exorbitant prices to suit their status.   The Guilders are the shipmasters of the Combine. They have been given enough autonomy to either operate on their own altogether or to captain small ships of up to ten crew.   The Remnants themselves are the lowest and most common rank of the CCR.

Public Agenda

The Commercial Combine Remnant bills itself as a private security firm, but it's a flimsy front for being one of the largest bounty hunter guilds outside Hutt control. They live off of the lucrative edge of the Empire's graces, providing intelligence and manpower to hunt down notable Imperial fugitives when needed, and in turn the Empire deals with a soft hand when Remnants run afoul of Imperial law.   They get worse in the frontier regions and remote systems of the Empire, where the Combine is guaranteed less Imperial scrutiny, and even the occasional commendation for dealing harshly with out-world upstarts.   The most volatile regions to run afoul of the Combine, however, is along the borders and contested worlds of Hutt space. Both criminal factions have the tacit approval of the Empire, and both understand that they have a blind eye when it comes to the systems deemed too lawless for a proper Imperial presence.   The Remnant do still maintain some purely trade and smuggling interests as well, most often used in conjunction with their own security concerns. This means that while they seldom run large-scale freight, the Remnant run lucrative jobs that would otherwise make them the targets of pirates or Imperial authorities.

Assets

The Combine consists of anywhere from twenty to forty thousand bounty hunters and mercenaries spread throughout the rim regions, and commands a loose accumulation of close to ten thousand ships, though they'd never be able or willing to muster in anything like a direct or massed engagement.   Individual guilds, however, are more likely to work as one. And the largest of the guilds boasts hundreds of ships and crews. The guild responsible for the Jaso and nearby sectors, Guild Master Hocron Qeel's guild, has upwards of two hundred modified freighters and heavy attack craft, and another one hundred single-seat starfighters. In terms of manpower, it boasts around one thousand mercenaries.

History

The Commercial Combine Remnant is the successor faction to the Stark Commercial Combine. When Iaco Stark betrayed his own allies and subordinates to the Republic authorities after the disastrous Stark Hyperspace War, most of his organization was wiped out. What few captains remained from his organization abandoned most of the commercial holdings in order to buy ships, buy guns, get out, and hide. By the time the dust settled, the handful of notables that escaped Iaco's treachery had set themselves up as petty mercenary warlords.   What happened next was remarkable, though. The remaining Combine captains banded together. First out of security, then out of a realization that their organization, even beaten and decimated, was better than Stark's legacy. They formed the Commercial Combine Remnant to recognize that fact. And as the dissent of the outer systems boiled over into the Clone Wars, the CCR found itself thriving once again. It helped it's former allies, the Trade Federation, at the war's onset, but distanced themselves as the Jedi became involved in the war.   By the time the Jedi were disgraced and the Emperor announced his purge, the CCR had worked both sides of the Clone Wars and the frontier itself long enough and well enough to be welcomed into the purge of the Jedi, something the Remnant accomplished with the efficacy of an organization burying the grudges of its founding.

Brothers who fight together remain.

Regional Contracts

CCR helped during the Jedi purges and has since been tapped by the Empire as manhunt agents and shadow security.

Contract Security

CCR has several outstanding contracts for Xucphra, but their methods are not widely appreciated within the Corporation.

Occasional Contracts

CCR has had several botched contracts with Zaltin in the past that have hurt both factions' reputations.

The CCR has had a few direct conflicts with the Alliance, but they have also had a few contentious alignments as well.

Open Hostility

Ashern and CCR forces often find themselves as enemies of convenience. Though their goals have never aligned, both sides have had occasion to tolerate each other's presence.
