Silver Talon Earrings

Silver talon earrings, although they appear commonplace, are also a symbol of the Kethendian Reunification Movement, a group of dragonborn who believe that the dragonborn clans of Kethendia should return to Silvermere to rebuild the city and live together. The earrings are used as a way for members of the movement to identify one another.

The Movement

The Kethendian Reunification Movement is one of the more poorly kept secrets among the dragonborn clans of Kethendia. Firm in their belief that the dragonborn tribes are meant to live amongst one another, members of the Movement are strong advocates for the reclamation and rebuilding of Silvermere, which was destroyed in the devastating eruption of Klauth's Fury. They often hold demonstrations to support their cause, despite being met with contempt from most of those they seek to convince. While members of the Movement are not violent, they do cause significant amounts of public unrest at these demonstrations.

The basis of the Movement is the idea that the dragonborn tribes are meant to live together with one another as they once did before the destruction of Silvermere. They believe that the city, which lies in ruins, is meant to be reclaimed by the clans and rebuilt as a beacon of strength, power, and unity for the rest of the Jade Sea, if not the world. Some members are also motivated by rumors of the wealth buried deep in the old vaults of Silvermere. They believe that no explorers have found it because it is protected by the spirits of those who died in the eruption for their kin who will return to the city.

Unfortunately for the Movement, most dragonborn in the Kethendian clans are resistant to change. The clans are deeply entrenched in their traditions, and most have no desire to travel or live anywhere else, regardless of its historical significance. Many do not wish to leave the lives they have now to travel halfway across the island and rebuild a city that is buried beneath ash and rock. As such, the Movement is regarded with disdain by those who are not a part of it. They are seen as threats to the safety of their clans or simply crazy. Known members often face discrimination from those around them.

The Earrings

Because public opinion of the Movement is so poor, members devised a way to identify one another without alerting outsiders to their status. The leaders of the Movement settled on earrings because they are a fairly commonplace accessory for dragonborn of all walks of life. The silver coloring is meant to represent the old city of Silvermere, while the shape resembles the Kethendian coin known as a talon. It is meant to show that all dragonborn do have things in common with one another: their shared origins, and features such as talons. It symbolizes the unity of all the clans.

All members are presented with a silver talon earring upon first joining the Movement. This earring is worn on the left ear. Higher-ranking members wear their earrings on the right ear, and leaders wear a silver talon on their right ear next to a smaller silver hoop.
