Taverns

Location

Taverns are often found in Zone 4 and Zone 5 of Birdencaster. A larger majority can be found in Zone 5 because of the clientele who travel between Towns, Cities and The Outside World: Villages.

Layout

On the bottom floor has an L shape layout for its customers, sits a bar close to the entrance, with a stage for performances in the evening. In the corner of the room is the stairs up to the rooms for staying the night. These rooms can be booked or paid for at the bar. Next to the stairs on the right as they come down is the kitchen where the meals of the tavern are made. There is no garden in the back.   Tables are spread around the L shaped room and can sit a variety number of people. A popular number is 4 but can sit as much as 8. Smaller taverns have at least 4 tables that can sit anywhere between 8 to 16 people. Much larger taverns have as many as 10 tables which can sit anywhere between 20 to 40 people.

Performances

Upon the stage, a popular show is a bard playing a Domra [Image Left]. The Dorma originating from Belarus, Russian and Ukraine [3]. The instrument is mainly heard in Mediterranean music, and when played sounds upbeat. Another performance on the stage can be other musicians and comedians.

Lodgings

Sleeping arrangements are on the upper floor. Smaller taverns normally only have two rooms while much larger ones have around 6 rooms. When catering for villagers the rooms are combined as they are more accustomed to sleeping with strangers in the same room, in hostel-type accommodation. Therefore the 6 rooms in the larger taverns are more likely to be 4 if accommodating villagers.

Rooms

City Dweller Accommodation

The rooms for City Dwellers normally has a double bed with the sofa in the corner. The sofa is able to be converted into another bed if required. It is common to find a desk in the room and a bedside table for everyone.

Village Dweller Accommodation

Rooms for village dwellers are large to accommodate more beds these rooms have at least 6 beds. These rooms also have a large empty space in the room, as villagers seem to be more likely touchy-feely with strangers. Such as hugging each other as well as shaking each other’s hands in a greeting. They are more likely than the City Dwellers to have their spouse’s rest their heads on each other’s shoulders in affection.

Clientele

The Clientele for the taverns tends to lean towards the working to lower-middle classes. On the tables, a caddy for cutlery can be found rather than this being “set” already this is where the menu is found.   When dinners are finished eating they simply leave the table as they have already paid and the table will be cleared and cleaned when necessary. The people who have left the table can either go to their room if they have booked one or are welcome to leave the tavern.

Lockdowns and Disasters

Lockdowns

During severe lockdowns, the Taverns remain open but will only send out food to the residents of Birdencaster their orders for food are carried by Messenger. The food that is being made for the resident is carried back to them also by Messenger.   In less severe versions of lockdowns the tavern remains open but sells food and drink at the door much like a store would. Depending on how the Tavern decides on how to sell its wares there seem to be two ways. Firstly to sell food and drink how they normally would but more geared towards a fast food set up. The other version is to be set up like a farm shop. In which the tavern’s ingredients are sold as-is and the alcohol that is normally bought by the tavern in bottles is sold to the customer in that way.

Disasters

In Disasters, the taverns are kept open unless they are destroyed or unable to open. The rooms will have reduced cost for survivors who need a place to sleep. Once the disaster is finished, the Tavern owner can claim the money back from the City Hall in Zone 2.

Menu

A typical Menu can be found above the sidebar of this article, using the "Read the Document" Button. The Clientele order food and drinks at the bar, it is also the place where they book a room if they require one.

Drinks

Taverns have a range of drinks but more alcoholic drinks than drinks that are not.

Beer and Ale

While beer and Ale are brewed the same way. Beer has hops in its brewing recipe while ale doesn’t. Since both are brewed in similar ways the production of these drinks is not an issue.

Cider

Cider of both sweet and dry are produced in the UK in high amounts. There is a surplus of British produced cider even with consumption. The surplus of which is traded with the other European countries. Dry cider is much more popular than the sweeter varieties of both parties.

Wine

All wines that are British are made in the south as that is where the grapes can be cultivated. Transportation is lowered by growing grapes close to the winery. There is not enough wine produced in Britain so wines are imported.   Red wines are imported from France [1], Spain [1] and Italy [1]. White wines are imported from France [2], Spain [2], Italy [2] and Germany [2].

Does It Own A Microbrewery

The taverns do not brew or distil their own alcohol. These are produced in Zone 3. Taverns are one of many places that someone can get brewed or distilled drinks.

Food

How Much Of Its Own Food Does It Make

Food is cooked on-site. The food its self is either canned or sourced locally and therefore not canned. The vension for the Thursday Special is sourced locally by the Animal Husbandry Industry, from Zone 5.
