The carpenter is a profession that makes furniture that is flat-packed and other wooden items apart from crates as that is the job of a Cratewright. The carpenters can be found in 3 9.

Career

Qualifications

As this Dual Position in which the profession starts as an Extra Employment, a new starter is trained how to do the job therefore no qualifications are required to do the profession.

Career Progression

This profession is a Dual Position, which starts as an Extra Employment. Which means the new starter was assigned the role as they progress through the role by showing merit, they will reach Level 3 in which their profession goes from being an Extra Employment to a Core Job. This is what meant by a Dual Position.
If the employee doesn’t have an another Extra Employment from being promoted from Level 2 to Level 3, the employee will be assigned another, Extra Employment position.

Level 1

At Level 1 a carpenter cuts the wood to necessary dimensions squares off the edges but also chamfers the edges to remove splinters.

Level 2

A Level 2 carpenter, makes the holes that are necessary, which include mortises for tenon joints and holes for screws and dowels.

Level 3

Finally, at Level 3, the carpenter assembles flat boards that can quicken the assembly process, such as installing the sidebars to a table. Where there is a gap in the sidebars a leg would go in assembly.

This profession makes flat-pack furniture and other wooden items for the citizens of Birdencaster.

The carpenter is neutrally bound meaning they are neither liked nor disliked various moments in a citizen of Birdencaster life have certain moments of liking what has been made, for example, opening a box marked “Christmas Decorations” and seeing the wooden decorations, a feeling of warm nostalgia may be felt.

Materials

The wooden planks and boards that are used are made of pine, that is from the Forestry Industry. The planks and boards themselves are bought from Warehouses that came from sawmills.

Workplace

The Carpenters and Cratewrights share the same workshop, both professions share all the same rooms as each other.
This is room to prepare themselves for the day’s work such as putting an apron on. This is also has a storage unit of cubby holes. Which have a number on, each employee regardless if they are a Carpenter or cratewright are assigned a unit to put their hat and scarf in winter or raincoat.
A room to eat which can be a place to take breaks.
And the final room for the storing to wood to use and a place to put finished products.

The carpenter produces wooden items that aren’t crates in the city of Birdencaster but can be found in other towns and cities.

Dangers & Hazards

The main dangers are those of not using tools correctly, getting injured by installing fixtures and fittings and getting splinters.
