Aquamation Tradition / Ritual in Frale Tides - Time of the Blue | World Anvil

Aquamation

In Maincity, Towerway and Bridge Stonehouses where space is limited, Humane deal with their body disposal with Aquamation.   Rather than using Alkaline solutions, swampwater or heavily contaminated Dust Water and Anz Blood are used to dissolve the body.   Ancient practices of leaving the bodies out in the Dust to be taken by the Anz was quickly considered barbaric, and the result would be Anz lingering nearby for the next free meal. DEPART has taken it upon themselves to make aquamation one of their first protocols. Only recently it was starting to be referred to as old-fashioned way of honoring the deceased, Memory Stones and Family Jewels are new ways of respecting the dead, but not a way to dispose of their physical self, and there seems to be no intention of changing.   It was this practice that had DEPART call the actions of the people "Humane", and as they tend to lament the Humane with soft but clear flattery. It's stuck all these years, and has outlines what they believe, and what depart insists, they are.   Frale undergoing aquamation have their lungs, spines, and Crystal Latch removed before starting the process.
"We're out of swampwater? No, don't call for an order, just use the murkiest dust water.  Well? Either leave the body for five days to attract flies and who knows what, or get them out of my station.

Yeah, but they're only a Frale."
