Family Jewel Item in Frale Tides - Time of the Blue | World Anvil

Family Jewel

Actually a translucent porcelain flower whose center is a bright and shining jewel, planted in the ground in front of a home of someone who's been recently deceased. When light is shone on the closed buds during the day, they bloom at night with the light that was stored during the day.   It's a rare flower that retains its light during Blackout, but is very faint and doesn't last longer than ten or so minutes. Can still be the saving grace in the dire situations. Even if not your home, the residents often will house another person during the blackout.

Everybody needs to be Humane.

In a home without a Frale worker, the common chore taught in a household is "lighting" the family jewel at night. It's always taught to the youngest member, and remains their responsibility, with or without an aid to make sure they light it.   Using a small fire is also said to keep the flower a nice warm temperature, great for warming the hands, but not very strong or long living, around 3 minutes. Using a manmade light keeps it charged at night for about 6 or 7. The most potent, as is the usual case, is having a Frale keep it light lasts the longest, up to 8-10 minutes. Using either Effects similar to Light of Tutilvek or Flames of Erdjoh doesn't seem to matter the longevity or range, only the strength of the Frale themselves.   Flowers are known to bloom during night only, and are said to live for up to 7-10 years, and is multiple families have passed during the time, a house can have a small garden of porcelain flowers.
"It seems as if there's a new sentiment in the Highform districts, that if there hasn't been a death in the family that's nearing the fall of their last Family Jewel, someone needs to die soon. It's a grim outlook we've allowed the highform."
