History

Lynia is the youngest of the countries of Moradin. They were established about two-thousand years ago at the culmination of The Long War. Waged between the Chromatic Dragons of Aurex and the Metallic Dragons of Vivex. The Chromatic Dragons had enslaved the mortal populations of Aurex while Tiamat waged war alongside Bahamut. A Red Dragon named Mhetor usurped power from the Chromatic Council in a coupe de tat. The war was at a stalemate, with the other countries hesitant to aid the Vivexian forces. But within Aurex, there was an uprising. The uprising was born through the leadership of a human slave, Lynne, and her chromatic dragon companion, Jyk’aver. The two together bonded as Dragon and Rider and through many small victories within Aurex they destabilized the country and over through their great Dragon Overlords and freed their slave army to fight beneath their banner for independence. Once Vivex finally overcame the destabilized Aurex they left the leaders of the rebellion in charge of the now devastated country. Lynne and Jyk’avir rebuilt the region. Amassing thousands together under an iron fisted rule to never again be oppressed by dragonkind and asserting that in Lynia, all were equal under the sword. Aurex was renamed Lynia, in honour of their first Empress. Many freedoms were established by the first Imperial Decree including freedoms of religion, movement, and speech.     There was a time in Lynia where all was fair and calm, it was known as the First Peace across Moradin. At the end of the First Peace, Lynne and Jyk’avir had set their sights on expansion. First they began seeding land away from Sideon to the South. Then encroached upon the slopes of Vivex to the North. This ignited a second war, but it only lasted for three days and three nights. Sideon, to the South had somehow infiltrated Lynia’s Capitol, Centerpointe, and dethroned Lyn and Jyk’avir. Forcing the pair to flee to the Savage Lands with their newborn child. The three never returned to Lynia and since then a new Imperial family has taken their place.

Demography and Population

The Empire is home to many citizens, most races are a holdover from the Age of Strife. The most common races are humans and gnomes followed by the numerous halflings. Elves and half-elves respectively share a population. dwarves are a common sight as well. Dragonborn however are an uncommon sighting, during the Long War most dragonborn were allied with the Dragonlords if not Dragonlords themselves and after they went into exile. Most traversed the ocean to the east while others slowly moved south and into the Mountains in the West.   The mortality rate is stable and declining.   Most individuals can expect to live well into their old ages, however life expectancy within the military drastically limits the upper ranges of age before a soldier is an officer of some sort.

Military

The Lynian Empire possesses a Navy, and an Army.   After a number of reforms the Lynian military transformed from the ancient Horde of Dogs into the Ten Thousand of Lyn, into the Fourteen Legions of the Empire into what we now understand as the Lynian Imperial Guard. Over the next several centuries the Lynian Army was constantly in battle, honing their edge and tactics into better more advanced machinations of mortal might and fury. Instead of completely obliterating the conquered the Lynians entered into a treaty of alliance with them. In return for mercy and infrastructure the newly allied would supply a stream of recruits for the Lynian military. Enabling the Imperial Guard to stand mightier and quicker than their rivals to the west and south. The military was broken up into Manipula, in order to facilitate easier movements and logistics.   In the common era now, the Lynian Imperial Guard does not possess mandatory service for any citizen other than the first born child of any family. The tenure of service is two years with a Empire granted restitution for two years afterwards.   There are twenty three Legions of the Imperial Guard now.

Education

Education in the Empire is extremely beneficial to the average Lynian citizen. Lynian education provides the foundations for future progress within society. Schooling that takes place in Lynia has transformed from a simple education system to a more complex one.   When Lynia was named Aurex and ruled by the Chromatic Dragons; children did not go to schools, they were educated at home. Education was a necessity for the Dragonlords to maintain their city-thrones. Multiple camps of slaves were educated differently from one another, creating specialization and further dividing the non-dragon kind who were used as slaves for the Dragonlords. Sometimes a more educated slave would be hired to teach more than the basic concepts such as reading and writing. These higher concepts included law, customs, physical training, military skills, agriculture, and engineering.   After the founding of the Empire, Lynians began sending their children to schools outside of their home and communities, an idea adopted from Saltoir. Bringing rise to the Academy system.   Education quality normally depended on the wealth of the family the child is born into. The rich put a great deal of faith in education.   Wealthy families were educated by private tutors until six years old. Then they were sent to school until twelve to thirteen years old. If the family was wealthy enough the child could afford to remain in school or enter a specialized line of education or an Academy.   The typical school day for a student within Imperial schooling begins at dawn and goes on for the entire weak with a short break in the middle of the day for lunch. At dusk the school day completes and the students return either home or to their quarters.

Infrastructure

Lynia stands on an impressive infrastructure inherited from the age of strife when their country was simply a number of city-states ruled by cruel Dragon overlords. Aqueducts, Bridges, fortresses, palaces, roads and cisterns are all holdovers from their time as slaves to the Chromatic Dragonlords.
