Caesar Aurelian Resitutor

Caesar Aurelian Resitutor is a former Princeps of Caesar's Legion.
Although he emerged through the Legion's armies, Aurelian has reputation for patience, thoughtfulness and wisdom. While he refuses to engage in torture and the conspicuous brutality of his predecessors, he has demonstrated that he is not above the use of violence to promote the public good. Under his leadership, the Legion still engages in mass slavery, the repression of women and summary execution for even minor crimes.
He was born Nathan Freeman in Flagstaff, to a family of water merchants. Forced out of the family business by his two brothers, he was forced to join the legion army. His obvious intelligence as soon noted and he was quickly promoted into a leadership role.
After the death of Caesar and the Legion's loss at the Second Battle of Hoover Dam, the Legion was in chaos. Three emperors emerged in a single year and were each assassinated by factions within the army. Eventually, the empire broke up into four autonomous districts and the southwest was plagued by perpetual war.
Nathan Freeman's first notable action came when he was a centurion serving in the defence of Flagstaff. Sick of the greed and ambition of the city's leaders, he overthrew its civilian leadership and established himself as dictator. Within a year, he had relinquished absolute power and reformed the government into a republic. The political stability of the city promoted trade and cooperation, and refugees from across the southwest relocated to the area. The newly renamed Aurelian was a visionary leader, focusing the city's production on defence and public works. He won election after election and grew in reputation and prestige.
In 2290, the four independent Legion states of Flagstaff, Two Sun, Malpais and Colorado Springs met for a reconciliation summit. It was decided by the leaders of the four great cities that the Legion should be reunited under a single leader in order to defend the region from the threats of the New California Republic, the Midwest Brotherhood of Steel, and The Capitol. The entire Legion undertook it's first general election for a Princeps. Ultimately, Aurelian won with over three quarters of the vote. He was declared Caesar and given the honourary name 'Restitutor' for re-establishing the empire through patient diplomacy instead of a self-destructive war.
Aurelian Restitutor's disdain for nuclear technology is well-known. He has ruthlessly sought out and destroyed pre-war nuclear weapons and has banned the use of nuclear energy. His absolute disgust with the religion of the Reavers is clear and regularly demonstrated. He has enslaved them as a people, executed their leaders and destroyed their capitol. Aurelian took personal pleasure in watching the Reaver's temple at Newton, Kansas torn down and burned. After the town was destroyed, he had the land salted, a tribute to Roman general Scipio Aemilianus's humiliation of ancient Carthage. When the destruction of Newton was over, Caesar Aurelian poured out the last bag of salt himself.
His 27 years of leadership have been extremely successful. He has conquered significant territory from Dixie and the Midwest Brotherhood of Steel.
After the St. Louis Attack, tensions between Caesar's Legion and the Midwest Brotherhood were at a 20 year high. A successful peace summit in Denver restored an uneasy calm between the two nations. Caesar Aurelian was instrumental in this peace talk. He handed over 72 Midwest prisoners for nothing in return. Many questioned this decision, both within and beyond the Legion.
On May 28th, 2317, Caesar Aurelian abdicated his title of Princeps and left control of the empire to the senate. With no clear successor and no interest to be involved in further politics, he left Flagstaff for an undisclosed location. Even his close advisors weren't told his exact plans. His whereabouts are still unknown to the public.
On June 3rd, 2317, the Legion's senate elected a new Princeps. They selected Pillar, a ghoul and former gladiator, who re-named himself Caesar Altus. Pillar vowed to pursue an agenda of internal development, which an emphasis on improving quality of life for the poor, especially slaves.
