Origins of a Tiefling

A tiefling is born from mortal parents when one of them either had a deal with a fiend of Inferna, born of tiefling parents, or had a direct parent as a fiend. Most tieflings are usually born as a result of Infernal plots being done by the fiend who gave them this appearance or as an insult to the family.

Either way, unkind treatment tends to occur with the community the tiefling is born in. Devils, vicians, or other demons may be the only friendly face that the poor tainted soul will ever know.

A Scrutinized Life

Besides Inferna, tieflings have no city or town with their majority. Usually, they amass in slums and ghettos of a city where prejudices against them are less common. A tiefling seeking good intentions would be wise to stay away from Infernal powers. Those who believe their livelihood is forfeit to the world, seek out powers such as the Infernal Clan, the Cult of Maledict, and others.

Life is far from easy for a tiefling. Sometimes, paranoid and superstitious folk are quick to blame tieflings for a disaster. Perhaps the tiefling is an omen for an Infernal presence? Maybe when the populace is starving and broken, that is when the fiends will swoop in to exploit the suffering. Conspiracies will plague tieflings, whether if they're at fault or far from it.

Tieflings tend to embody the tendencies of their fiendish heritage. Some may be methodical while others are prone to anger issues.

Carnalid

Destruction and violence is all these demons know. They don’t really respect rules unless their hand is forced to get what they want. In the end, power is all that matters to do as they please.

Devil

Devils are shrewd and methodical. To get what they want is all a matter of pushing things into a proper place like a massive chess board, or for experienced devils, a system of revenue. Very often, devils utilize rules and deals as hallmarks to get what they want.

Vician

Vicians are manipulators. They see people as tools to get what they want. In their dealings, they don’t like using gritty details. Usually, they are merely agreements to coordinate in a common cause for a shared goal.

Most tieflings come in varying hues of red or reddish-orange. Any other color would suggest that the tiefling has a heritage with a specific Infernal Lord.

When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the hellish rebuke spell as a 2nd-level spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. When you reach 5th level, you can cast the darkness spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.
