Before Temples
Glitter God and Satan made it no secret that they were the ones restoring the world and gave the people a second chance at life. Thus, people have always worshipped the quite devoutly. At the beginning, they were just trying to make ends meet and build all the most necessary buildings first. They couldn’t spend time and resources on building extravagant temples yet, so they only put up in more densely populated areas. As the society progressed and towns grew however, the need and opportunity for larger temples came about.
First Temples
First temples were still rather small, but already had some elements we still see in temples today. They were decorated in gods’ main colors, pink, gold and white for Glitter God and purple or red and silver for Satan. Fairies would also decorate Glitter Temples with flowers, usually tulips. These temples now became proper places of worship, where people could come to pray to Glitter God or Satan and give them offerings. It was also these temples where people would start getting their monthly payments from gods; before that, people would get their monthly payments at each Lanternfest in town centers.
A lot of these smaller temples can still be found all around the world, but many got replaced with bigger temples. A lot of the first temples were dedicated to both gods, but as time went on people started building separate temples for Glitter God and Satan, as many people choose which one of them they wish to be more devoted to.
Modern Temples
Modern temples are still similar to old ones in many aspects, but may be very different in others. Today, all temples have a common round structure, something that was only seen in some of the old temples. Still, they are adorned with gods’ main colors and silver or gold statues. Many of these statues depict Glitter God or Satan, but many Glitter Temples have statues of catbunnies. Catbunnies are Glitter God’s favorite animal and beloved pet, and therefore considered to be holy. Temples usually have large windows or glass walls, letting in as much sunlight as possible. The temples have two stories and are usually a part of a larger complex that includes meditation parks, flower fields, an office building and a separate area for hosting weddings.
The entire bottom floor of a temple is one large round room, usually with a statue of Glitter God, Satan or a fountain in the middle. Everything in here is in gods’ signature colors. In between the columns you’ll find quiet spots where you can sit down, pray, meditate or just take time to sit down and relax while listening to relaxing music that seems to always be playing in temples. The stairs at the back of the room lead up to a balcony that runns all around the perimeter of the temple. Here there's more sating areas for thinking and meditation.
On the lot there's also a separate office building, where people and fairies can do official business, as described below. In the basement of this building, there are vaults that contain all the money and valuables of the people that belong to a certain temple.
Funcions of Temples
Worship
Temples are first and foremost places of worship. People come here to pray to Glitter God or Satan, to thank them or ask for one thing or the other, give offerings, or just vent or ramble on about things that are on their mind. Many others aren’t as verbal when it comes to their inner thoughts, and may prefer to just come to meditate and relax in peace and solitude. Well, not as much solitude because there’s always other people here, but you can always find a spot in a corner of the main room. Despite the fact that the room is round. But you can find a private spot, that’s the point.
Guided meditations and prayers are organized daily as well for those who may prefer a group guided meditation.
Weddings
As temples are the main central for all the religious and official business, it only makes sense for people to have their weddings here as well. Weddings can be organized for any day of the week, and usually take place outside in the area designated for weddings. In case of bad weather, weddings can also take place inside of the temple.
Transaction and Storage of Goods and Money
The world of moles doesn’t really have banks, because temples have always worked as such. Temples are where you get your monthly pay, and temples are where you can keep all your valuables - from money to any items you hold dear. All this will be stored in vaults within these temples and only fairies are authorized to manage the possessions stored here.
But people’s personal possessions aren’t the only thing stored here. All the offerings given to gods, or given by gods to people go through here. Whenever you wish to donate an item or money to gods as an offering, you’d bring it here, where fairies will store it in storage rooms, until they are able to deliver them to gods, or instructed otherwise what to do with them.
Official Business
In theory our world may be a complete anarchy, but in practice is actually an efficiently run theocracy. All the information about all of the residents of our world is stored in these temples. Every kid that is born is registered here with their name, colors, residence and gender and is given their ID card. As they grow up, they would return here to register all the important personal information and other things. You would come here for thing including but not limited to:
- issuing a new ID card
- change of residence, name, gender or family you belong to
- registering as a leader of a family
- registering your BFF or romantic marriage
- registering a newborn child (yours only, please don’t steal babies)
- registering any new job
- registering an ownership of a business or a residence
- obtaining documents related to any of the above points or for other purposes
- transfering of the ownership of a residence, business, child, leadership of a family
- announcing the death of a family member and getting in order all the things needed in this event
- registering at a new temple due to change of residence
- other things related to one’s identity, role, business or living situation
In our modern day a lot of this can also be taken care of through your local temple’s website, where you can contact the fairies or moles working there for all the documents and information you may need.
Everyone’s records and information are kept in their local Glitter Temple, until they move into a different district governed by a different temple. Records of the dead are archived and kept in case of need for future reference.
Significance of Temples
Considering everything said, temples are considered to be the most important building of every district, and every district has one main temple that governs the district in question. In addition to the main temple, every district usually has a few smaller temples that don’t always provide all of the services of the main one. Each temple is run by a head priest, and Glitter Temples in particular are run by a head fairy. The fairy chosen to run the main temple of every district is considered to be Head Fairy of the District. This one changes once every decade and is chosen through a very strict event, more of which you can read here.
Central Temples
The temples most notably appearing in the comics are Glitter God's and Satan's temple of Central District.
Central Glitter Temple
Central Temple is currently managed by Fairy Priest. As the largest temple, it offers all the services listed above. Some scenes of the movie Lord of the Fairies were filmed at this location.
