Human
The legacy of humanity is not one of destiny, but of momentum. As the only species on Fanterath to arise through natural evolution, humans often see themselves as unshaped by the supernatural forces that define others. Whether this is a truth or merely a belief, they have built their histories upon it. Their presence spreads like rivers carving new courses—sometimes deliberate, sometimes inevitable, always reshaping the land behind them.
Their adaptability is not boundless, nor is their ambition unique, yet the scale of their impact is undeniable. Where they gather, they leave stories in their wake—some written in ink, others in conquest, and many simply in the way they assume the world turns with them at its centre.
Physical Description
Humans display a vast range of physical traits, with heights, builds, skin tones, and facial structures varying more than in most other species. This breadth of diversity is shaped by generations of adaptation, migration, and intermingling across different environments. Unlike many other species, whose magical natures impose certain evolutionary pressures, humans lack such constraints, allowing for a broader range of physical variation.
Yet, for all their diversity, humans are also among the most neutral of species in a physiological sense. Without the inherent magical traits seen in others—such as horns, tails, or elemental markings—their forms remain unbound by supernatural lineage. This same absence of innate magical influences makes humans uniquely capable of producing offspring with a wide range of other species, a rarity among the peoples of Fanterath.
Society
Human societies shift as easily as sand in the wind, shaped by ambition, necessity, and the passing of ages. From warrior-kinships bound by oath to sprawling city-states ruled by unseen hands, their ways of life are as varied as the lands they claim. Their empires rise and fall with startling frequency, each generation quick to reshape what came before, whether in pursuit of progress or in defiance of it. This relentless dynamism gives human cultures a vibrancy unmatched, though it often leaves them tangled between reinvention and nostalgia, forever looking forward while carrying the weight of what was.
Humans are collectors—of stories, of artifacts, of victories and losses. They hoard knowledge, preserve relics, and carve their histories into stone and parchment, seeking to define both themselves and the world around them. Whether this impulse stems from curiosity, ambition, or something deeper, one thing remains certain: in their endless gathering, humans do not merely record history—they declare it.
Relations
Humans’ drive for expansion brings them into frequent contact with other races, leading to both conflict and collaboration. They often define others through simplistic or self-centred terms, such as calling all diminutive species “halflings” or grouping disparate tribes under labels like “goblin” or “orc.” This tendency can stem from genuine ignorance or a more insidious sense of superiority.
Despite this, humans are capable of great empathy and alliance-building, forging bonds with those who earn their respect. Their adaptability allows them to coexist with nearly any race, though their numbers and ambition can make them imposing neighbours.
Personality
To a human, there is no single way to be human. Their nature is as varied as their histories, shaped by land, lineage, and the unseen weight of generations before them. They are driven by ambition or caution, by the call of distant horizons or the security of the known. Some carve their names into stone, while others let time wash over them without concern. Yet, for all their differences, humans often assume their own ways of thinking to be the natural order of things. Their stories centre themselves, their struggles define the world's conflicts, and their values weigh heaviest in the scales of history—if only because it is humans who so often hold the pen.
Adventurers
Driven by ambition, curiosity, or necessity, humans make natural adventurers. They seek wealth, glory, knowledge, or simply the thrill of discovery, and their versatility allows them to excel in any role. Whether as fearless warriors, cunning rogues, or scholarly spellcasters, human adventurers channel their struggles and dreams into shaping the world around them.
