Jord
Geography
Outer Jord
The larger landmass of Jord forms a massive ring around the smaller Inner Jord. It is here that the majority of the population can be found. The ring has long range of mountains that flow along the southwest of the continent. That region is mostly rocky and sparse in vegetation, but holds the bulk of the valuable ores and minerals. As you move northwards and eastwards, the land becomes more verdant with forests and rolling hills.
The Gulf of Morhid
The Gulf of Morhid, or Morhid's Deep, is the bay that separates Outer and Inner Jord. The Jordish Navy heavily patrols the entirety of the gulf.
Inner Jord
Located within the gulf is the large island of Inner Jord. The bulk of the island's terrain is mostly plateau interspersed with low mountain peaks, ice fields and a coast indented by bays and fjords. The central region becomes more desolate with volcanic peaks stretching across a wide central mountain range. The northwestern edges of the island are slightly more fertile, with a small number of evergreen woods. All of the island is geothermally active, dotted with hot springs, geysers, and steaming vents near dead volcanic spouts. The are also many ruined Dwarvish cities and strongholds from the last Jord Civil War. Currently, most of the land is utilized as the Eurra's largest prison.
Climate
Jord has a subarctic to cool oceanic climate, influenced by currents carrying the frigid temperatures of the nearby Frozen Inferno, combined with being highly volcanically active, which keeps temperatures across most of Jord milder than other places at similar latitudes. Winters are chill and windy, especially along the coasts, with average temperatures around 0°C (32°F). Summers are cool, with temperatures rarely exceeding 15°C (59°F). The weather is highly variable, often shifting quickly between sun, rain, snow, and wind. Coastal areas tend to be wetter, while the interior highlands are colder and drier. Volcanic activity creates unique habitats like lava fields, geothermal areas, and glacial rivers.
Fauna & Flora
Flora
Most of Jord is covered by mosses, grasses, and low shrubs. Harsh conditions and deforestation mean that forests are sparse. Native forests were primarily birch and fir, but now only about 5% of the land is forested on Inner Jord, 15% on Outer. Tundra vegetation dominates the highlands.Fauna
Many of the land mammals of Jord are predatory, including fox, polar bears, leopards, and even polar owlbears. Reindeer and elk do roam wild in some areas. Great goats and sheep were introduced across Jord after being bred for size as beasts of burden. Birdlife exists in rich quantities, including puffins, terns, and many seabirds. Coastal waters are home to seals, whales, and fish making for a good seagoing industry.Natural Resources
Natural gas, various metals ores, sand, coal, timber, geothermal power, gold, stone
