Human
Humans? No, boy, they're extinct... well perhaps it is more accurate to say they're endangered. Most hope they're extinct, some search for them to ensure they're extinct. To be honest with you, the closest they come to still being in this galaxy are the Mechalus, but even the humans saw them as less than human, just like the rest of us. Me? I just hope that if there are some around, they're not the horrors from before. The once dominant species in the galaxy, reduced to a mere handful of planets. These planets are not the urban sprawls or centres of education and power that others were, they are simple outposts, further out than most and when the illness started, they isolated themselves once they heard the reports. Any vessels that did make it to these isolated planets were turned away... or destroyed. The human settlements that have survived without the contact with their capital are more like frontier outposts now at the earliest days of the empire's expansion, minimal technological expertise and resources, while expanding with every birth and having to adapt and find new ways of feeding the extra mouths brought into the settlement. Most written educational materials for mechanics and technicians have disappeared, there are no longer schools or classes for these skills, instead they are handed down to apprentices with direct practical training. No longer numerous and reduced to only a handful after two generations, people with these skill sets are given greater respect than in other societies.

Average Technological Level
At the peak of their empire, Humans were capable of great feats of technological engineering. Many concepts were mastered, The Magnus as one example, was only one of many ships with a black hole as a power source, though only one of a few with more than one such power plant. Another example is the FTL Net, a barrier that completely blocks any attempt to get through it, by any means and often meaning death for those who attempt to push through it.
"Most hope they are extinct" is such a nice phrase that sets the tone about humanity's place in this particular galaxy. Do players play as humans or aliens in this setting?
Creator of Araea, Megacorpolis, and many others.
The original direction for players was to play as Humans from an outpost settlement on the fringes of what once was the empire. They could redeem themselves and their race, or prove the other races right in their bid to ensure the extinction of the species.
