Dohrim was born in Tashalar to Atala and Haseid of the wealthy Qai family, who are moderately influential within the politics of the city. The youngest of his seven siblings, he grew up in a fabulously extravagant mansion, complete with servants and slaves. Dohrim spent much of his early years intently studying business and economics, with the intention of eventually taking over the family commerical empire. However, his parents preferred his older siblings as their heirs. The Qais also have magic innately in their bloodline - Dohrim's manifested at an early age as unpredictable surges of wild magic, which he still struggles to control.
At age fourteen, Dohrim was given his first business to manage - an import-export warehouse that was on the verge of bankruptcy. Thanks to his remarkable skill at business, within a year Dohrim had managed to turn the warehouse profitable and turn control back over to his parents. Soon, he found himself managing multiple failing family (and family friend) businesses, turning them around, and returning them to their original owners.
However, as the years went by, his siblings began to take credit for Dohrim's successes. His parents accepted these claims - after all, they preferred them as their heirs. Dohrim felt increasingly unappreciated, until one day, after a particularly harsh argument with his parents, he packed his bags and left for the city of Waterdeep
