Waterdeep
Waterdeep the gem of the Sword Coast the City of Splendor and the home of adventure. Waterdeep is one of the largest and most advanced cities economical, militarily, and society. Its only rivals in these maters are Neverwinter and Baldur's Gate.
The city, founded at the base of Mount Waterdeep, is a hub of trade for the entirety of the Sword Coast. The lanes of trade spread out from Waterdeep over the land and up and down the coast. The coins of Waterdeep can be found in all but the most secluded nations, and merchants the world round have at least some connection to the markets of the City of Splendors.
The Nobles of Waterdeep, called the Waterhaven Nobles, are at the cutting edge of fashion and culture. Grand balls, expensive clothes, and intrigue are synonymous with a noble of Waterhaven. The politics of Waterhaven are legend. The scandals, secrets ,and interconnected web of connections and relatives would give a drow an ulcer. The lord of Waterdeep is elected from these nobles with the first being Ahghairon who founded the city in 1088 DR.
The adventurer in Waterdeep will find no end of excitement. There is a practically infinite amount of quest givers with problems, secrets to uncover, and a city sized dungeon under their very feet. Two of them actually. There is the more well known Undermountain, but there is also a vast dungeon under Mount Waterdeep that acts as a kind of magical prison. Halaster uses it to store things for his dungeon.
The city is overall safe being patrolled by the Waterdeep City Watch, and if things get really bad the City Guard. They protect from common treats like thieves and vagrants, but more dangerous things do tend to happen in the city. Luckily there is usually a band of Adventurers or two to lend a hand. The Watch and Guard are also on a war with The Xanathar Guild, the largest crime ring in the city led by the mysterious Xanathar.
