Vorheim
An Island of Adventure
Not really sure what kinda stuff is happening on this island, but the magic is crazy, I'm more powerful here than anywhere else.Vorheim is main focal point of the world, with a great many things happening in areas near the island, quests available from all the various characters that visit, and of course, the secrets of the island itself to be discovered.
The Inhabitants
The main population of the island resides in Farosia, a medium sized town on the north-eastern corner of the island. The town has a cove with a port and is growing quickly due to adventurers taking a liking to the unique properties of Vorheim and from researchers coming to discover its history. The rest of the island has inhabitants spread about, some residing in the mountains where there is an abandoned dwarven city, others building homesteads or wandering the land. Farosia was first established by a group of seafaring elves, who discovered once they were here long enough that the island had been inhabited before them, possibly more than once.Geography
The island is fairly large, consisting of several biomes. The entire northern half is forested with the western half being temperate and relatively safe, and the eastern half consisting of a tropical dense jungle full of dangers. Down the center going horizontally most of the length of the island, is a strip of rolling hills and plains which the locals call "The Divide". The entire island is slanted upwards towards the west, so on a very clear day you can stand on the western end of the divide and see ocean on the eastern side of the island. past the divide to the south is and area of tall jagged mountains with snowy peaks.
The Mountains
The mountains temperature is significantly lower than the rest of the island and the locals believe it to be from a permanent spell placed on the area by the dwarves. There are 5 large peaks surrounded by a large number of smaller mountains, making the entire area very difficult to traverse without flight. Near the edge up against The Divide, there is a winding path that leads up into the mountains and towards the center peak. At the end of that path about midway up the largest center mountain, there is a large stone entrance leading down into The Halls of VorheimThe Divide
Once a major battlefield, these rolling hill are now fairly tranquil and serve as a relatively open building ground for homes and farms of the ever expanding population of the island.Ocean
The island is surrounded on the north and eastern sides by long stretches of white sand beaches and palm trees. There is a bit of a sandbar leading out into the ocean a ways but it sharply drops at a point. The cliffs surrounding the other half of the island drop sharply into the ocean and are littered with sea rocks, coves, and underwater caverns.Localized Phenomena
The island is a hotspot for magical activity, so by consequence there are often strange and unexplainable things that happen on it. Since nature is so heavily tied to magic as well, some of the creatures living on the island are incredibly powerful and abnormal.
There isn't a large struggle of good vs. evil on the island with the exception of conflicts brought on by its inhabitants, but there is a daily battle of civilization vs. nature.
Fauna & Flora
The island is home to a great variety of creatures. Some are natural to the island, others have migrated here or been brought by other people passing through. The jungle is home to the most diverse and dangerous sets of both plant and animal life, and sometimes become a problem for inhabitants of the island. There's also a fairly large number of domesticated animals within and around the settlements on Vorheim.
Access to such a wide range of plants and animals is a blessing and a curse for the island. Some take advantage of the various critters and monsters such as Kailani's Monster Goods, while others constantly need help weathering the more dangerous areas of the island or even getting to and from town.
