Shrewwin Mountains

The Shrewwin Mountains separate Rustad from the rest of Amalar. Over the centuries, they've turned back armies, adventurers, and even the Blight.

Geography

The Shrewwin Mountains are largely unexplored. They stretch from the west to the east coast, leaving sheer cliff faces on either side. It's impossible to go around them by land. The only way past is by sea. The base of the southern end of the range is surrounded by flatlands. Southerners fear the mountains and their power, so none have settled near them. Even the humans have stayed away. Due to this isolation, the Blight never really passed the mountains, and never took over Rustad. The Ruvir see the mountains as their guardians, and the more fanatical even worship them.   In the lower southeastern corner of the range lays lake Isotarn, tiny compared to other lakes, but crystal clear. Above the mountains, to the north, is Ineit Lake, easily ten times larger than Isotarn. Ineit Lake is one of the main sources of water for the Ruvir.   The Ruvir are less superstitious of the mountains, but keep their distance for more logical reasons, like the fact that dangerous things live in the mountains, that no sane person would ever want to face. Not all of those dangers are creatures, either. There are rumors of beings that live in the mountains, dwarves turned into monsters by their years in exile, brains twisted by the Blight. No one dares to venture out and see if those stories are true.

Fauna & Flora

The mountains are sparsely populated. Few creatures can brave the frigid temperatures and dangerous heights the range presents. Mountain goats have been spotted on the cliffs, as have mountain lions, but sightings are few and far between. Some pine trees have managed to survive as well, but those are even rarer than animals.
