Vir’thelgos - Historical
Vir'thelgos is a very old city, founded during the Bronze Age by a group of Moon Elves and dedicated to the Goddess of the Moon Selene, their patron Goddess. In the centuries that followed the city grew and eventually took to the skies, becoming one of the great floating cities of the Age of Arcanum. Unlike many of the other mageocracies of Arcanum, Vir'thelgos and its population did not abandon their worship of the Gods, specifically Selene.
During the War of Arcanum, when the Gods came to destroy the city they found it empty and evacuated, those loyal to Selene and the Gods had fled underground, leaving the city defenceless. Without any resistance the city came crashing to the ground, but its people survived.
After the Fall of Arcanum the people of Vir'thelgos remained loyal to Selene, thanking her for sparing them, developing their city into a theocracy instead of a magocracy. During the many centuries that followed the survivors began to rebuild the city. Though it was no longer able to take to the skies, the city has returned to its former glory as the capital of the Kingdom of Lorth’elon.
