Thanatos - The Angel of Death

Thanatos is the God of Death. They are a shy and melancholy deity, almost exclusively interacting with the dead.   Thanatos is a psychopomp, one of the beings responsible for ferrying souls to the Underworld, along with Charon, Hermes and The Keres. As a psychopomp Thanatos is the only Deity capable of passing through The Divine Gate.   Thanatos is one of the Primordial deities, one of the first beings in existence. Thanatos is the embodiment and personification of death.   Thanatos is the primary consort of the God Eros, a union spanning from the early years of creation.   Because of Thanatos’ connection to death, and the cultural taboo around it, Thanatos is usually only referred to by epithets, such as “the Angel of Death” or “the Gentle Death” as to avoid invoking them or drawing their attention.   Thanatos is not worshipped outside of specific cults. Though some may beseech Thanatos on matters of death or at funerals.   Domains: Death, Funerals and Mourning.   Symbols: Black Wings, Butterflies, an Inverted Torch, Ravens, A Sword and Urns.
